Totally agree, it's the thing that ticks me off the most about him.

Hopefully some VD will rub off on Crabs.

Crabs thinks he has it. But i am starting to agree with you about him. We'll see though.

I still have hope that Crabtree will break out this year. After all, he was doing fine up until the playoffs.

They are who we thought they were...

Jim Harbaugh and the San Francisco 49ers picked up where they left off. Harbaugh's legion of running backs slammed the ball at the Minnesota Vikings all night long. It's easy to forget what a disaster the Niners were just two seasons ago. Harbaugh has the chance to be a special coach in the NFL.

Sidenote: Colin Kaepernick's 78-yard scamper is an easy pick for Run of the Week. Keep in mind he's a quarterback. Also keep in mind it would have taken Matt Hasselbeck 42 minutes to do this.

RANK 3
49ERS

The questions surrounding this team always begin and end with Alex Smith. But Randy Moss and Frank Gore are also worth investigating early in 2012. The early bird says Moss will start and could surprise a few folks at 35 (the same age as Burress.) Meanwhile, Gore has logged nearly 2,000 career touches and is 29. Expect a committee look in The City by the Bay -- a headache for fantasy owners, but a sensible approach for a team with plenty of depth at running back.

Up 1 spot from last power rankings, right below NYG and NE, not bad IMO. What 2 years makes, go from terrible coach in Sing and almost laughing stock, to now Top 3 Defense, HC of the year, 13-3, and a super bowl contender, and legit one.

Among the 49ers missing for the start of practice: Cox, Ald Smith, Brooks, Walker, Byham, Tukuafu and Cam Johnson. Sopoaga is back.

"Boone had a good game the other night," Roman said. "I really like how he's adapting to the guard position. Things happen faster at guard than it does at tackle and a lot of things can change in hurry in there at guard. There's a lot of action, leverage is a premium, being able to play low, and Alex has really improved week-to-week." Proper pad level for a man of Boone's size is paramount in the trenches, but it sounds like Boone has handled the challenge well. But he's not the only one going through a possible position change. 2nd-year backup Mike Person, a 7th-round draft pick in 2011, has also started to take practice reps at tackle after spending last season as a guard on the scout team. Tackle isn't entirely new to Person, as he excelled at the position during his college career at Montana State, earning first-team All-Big Sky honors after he didn't allow a sack during his entire senior season. "He just continues to develop," Roman said. "He's a young guy that had his first offseason of physical development which is so important for a lineman especially. He's coming along and I expect good things from Mike the rest of this preseason. This is his second year in it so he's no stranger to our system and he's not learning so much now what to do, but how to do it."
Good stuff to hear so far. Like hearing all of the player improvements on the team and hope they continue. So ready for the season to start!

Gotta love VD dude has really become a true super star.

That's my dude. Really happy with how he has developed and matured. I think that he and Smith will be running things this season.

Its that inner desire to be great Jerry had it, Pat has it, VD has it. Sadly to Crabs does not have it.
I dont want to turn this into a Crabs thread, but this is what I mean when I say dude doesn't have the heart of a champion. Its not that he doesn't work hard, but truly elite players do that extra that others dont. They have a unquenchable drive to get better. Justin Smith is another example of this. I just dont see it in Crabtree, so I dont think he'll ever be great and thats not what you want from a top ten pick.

Vernon needed Sing. Perhaps Moss will play that role for Crabs and open his eyes.
