Rather have a sixth receiver than a fifth rb
Hey AB you need to cut one player your roster is at 54.
Colin Jones, Brandon Jacobs or Trenton Robinson.

I can see this going in either way. It really just depends on what the rookie rush LBs show us throughout preseason. If either looks like he can fill in competently, then keeping Haralson makes little sense. Also curious to know how sharp Kilgore looks at C. If he is looking good there, we can afford to stash Slowey on the PS.

I doubt Jones makes it, we added two guys that could take his role as special teamer, and both have more upside at a regular position, Cox and Robinson

I think we carry six WR, that position gets dinged up easy, though having Owasu and Palmer on the PS could be good enough insurance to carry 5

DL Depth may be the spot someone surprises us, Im going with Jerod-Eddie, great DE size and style of play, he also played in a 3-4 at Texas
I think he passes by Tuku and/or Dobbs as camp goes on, I could see the Niners keeping just 6

That's a lot of work - Thanks.

We are really stacked - not perfect but it's been a long time since we were this solid.

Not a fan of Harrelson AND do see the point of his experience if someone goes down. Hoping Cam Johnson can develop fast.

And there are still the surprise roster cuts from other teams.

The difference between Haralson and a late round rookie is like the difference between Morgan and Swain.

We become very thin at OLB if we cut Haralson, and the logic that we are making ourselves thin in order to not be thin in case of an emergency doesnt really hold water.

Of course, if Cam Johnson blows right out the gate and is a monster immediately, this is all irrelevant.

EDIT: misread your post, I thought you said you dont see the point of keeping Haralson

why would colin jones count as dead money if he makes your 53 man roster? is this because he was cut and resigned? and i dont think fleming makes the roster... i think we go in with 6 receivers and kyle williams being the 6th
Our team is built around the defense. And OLB is possibly the most important position on the defense. A reliable backup is extremely valuable. Cam Johnson has potential... but I don't think they will "roll the dice" again at OLB. Haralson will stay. Here is how they do it (assuming no contract renegotiations):

+ Haralson $2.77M
+ K. Williams $0.6M (5 WR isn't enough when one of them is T. Ginn, we need a 5th that can actually play WR. Could also keep Owusu for cheaper)
+ J. Hampton $0.4 (similar in size to Cartwright with more potential as a RB)

- Jacobs $1.58M
- Cartwright $0.98M (too much to pay for an aging special teamer)
- Ian Williams $0.47M (don't think we will keep 7 DL)

Net = + $0.74M

Figures, I swore I had it at 53 and 8.

Also I agree with OTC, I overlooked the OL, I can see at least 1 maybe 2, depended on how the roster shapes out.

Haralson will need a pay cut, his salary won't fit under the cap, we would have under 2 million to have for emergencies. This however doesn't count that 1.64M credit from Dallas and Washington being stripped of cap space, as that hasn't been made official with the hearings and mediation happening. If so, we would have an extra 1.64M, unless we chose to defer it to 2013 when we probably need it more. 2013 I've heard between 120.9M to 130M. Owners want it lower for obvious reasons. While the NFLPA wants it higher for the players to get more money. Will be interesting to see as things shape out in coming months.
Can*t see us keeping Cam and Fleming. I think we will looking for some experience as linebacker back ups.

I do agree to an extent, depends on whether Haralson takes a pay cut or not. If a vet comes free we could sign a vet to fill the role and on a minimum deal.
Yeah I just don't see Parys getting cut at this point. we have no clue if Aldon can handle the load full time and the depth behind Parys is unknown. We might see him take a pay cut like Ted Ginn did last off season.

Yeah he will have to. He could take a pay cut, and wipe out his 2013 season all together. But for this purpose, I say Haralson is cut to save cap room, as it will be tough to keep him under his current deal. Kinda like Spencer before he was cut, he wasn't staying at that 3.2M salary, too much for a backup.

That RB should be classified as a return specialist. He would be the primary punt and kick returner. Kind of lik when the 4th TE was Jennings. He was Long snapper not a TE.
A few things that pop out to me.

1. The WR's are better on paper than in the past years. defensive coordinators will have to take notice.
2. Our OL is one or two injurie away from being a turnsile. I pray that Persons, Kilgor, Slowey can step in if there is an inury.
3. Was not a fan of bringing in Josh Johnson. I would rather cut Johnson or Kaepernick and keep Tolziemn.
Pretty much agree with everything. I just hope we don't overload at rb
