i am pretty sure it was said and stated that he was used many times in red zone country, inside the ten where he lined up and ran it into the end zone.i am saying he would be our back up fullback as well as a backup to return kicks. no you make room for a vetern special teams ace like this since we lost a great captain on special teams last year
i would have to say i like AB's projected roster better. no way we keep 4 QBs and 5 RBs. Jacobs would have to play special teams if he wants to make the roster.

Where's Ginn? And we won't keep 4 QBs, I can see us dealing Tolzien to a team for 2013 7th rd pick.

I would keep this 53 man

QB- Alex Smith, Josh Johnson, Colin Kaepernick
RB- Frank Gore, Kendall Hunter, LaMichael James and Rock Cartwright
FB- Bruce Miller
WR- Michael Crabtree, Randy Moss, Mario Manningham, Ted Ginn Jr. and A.J. Jenkins
TE- Vernon Davis, Delanie Walker and Nate Byham
C- Jonathan Goodwin and Jason Slowey
OG- Mike Iupati, Daniel Kilgore, Joe Looney and Mike Person
OT- Joe Staley, Anthony Davis and Alex Boone

DE- Justin Smith, Ray McDonald, Will Tukuafu and Demarcus Dobbs
NT- Isaac Sopoaga and Ricky Jean Francois
OLB- Aldon Smith, Ahmad Brooks, Parys Haralson, Darius Fleming and Cam Johnson
ILB- Patrick Willis, NaVorro Bowman, Larry Grant and Tavares Gooden
CB- Carlos Rogers, Tarell Brown, Chris Culliver, Perrish Cox and Tramaine Brock
S- Dashon Goldson, Donte Whitner, C.J. Spillman, Trenton Robinson and Colin Jones

K- David Akers
P- Andy Lee
LS- Brian Jennings

Notable Cuts- Kyle Williams, Anthony Dixon and Brandon Jacobs

Inactive Gameday- QB Kaepernick, C Slowey, OG Person, DE Dobbs, OLB Johnson, CB Brock and S Robinson

Core ST unit- RB Cartwright, TE Byham, DE Tukuafu, OLB Fleming, ILB Grant, ILB Gooden, CB Cox, S Spillman, S Jones, the last would be a tough call, I would probably go with either Jenkins or Walker, or a OG like Looney

Edit- Forgot Practice Squad, I would keep these 8, WR Owusu, RB Hampton, OG Netter, TE Reuland, C Beeler, S Nelms, DE Masifilo and CB Bademosi

I think we need either Jacobs or Dixon and Im willing to give the slight nod to Jacobs. We need a short yardage back and Jacobs has proven that he can catch the ball too, his 5-10 touches a game will help us more than Colin Jones or Cam Johnson. Ian Williams is expendable too since he's too small for the NT position and not explosive enough for the ends.

Id cut Ian Williams, Dixon and the loser of the OLB position battle or Colin Jones.

But you'll still post here, right?

I honestly don't even see him making the roster. Tolzien has more upside IMO.

Tolzien has practice squad eligibility...
Since they expanded the off-season roster late, is there any chance they do the same with the final roster?

1. It was said and stated where...

2. If he has never played fullback then he's a backup running back, not a fullback. The team would have to find someone else to be the backup fullback(Walker, Byham, etc.) who actually has the size to play the position.

3. Did I say anything about making room for him? I am only curious about whether or not he's played fullback in his career because it sounds like it is was an idea created on the webzone which has now become factual information. He may have experience at fullback but I won't buy it until I see proof.

ok. he lined up at running back and scored touchdowns in his career, thats all i know. ok I can not find it carved in stone that he is a fullback. he scores or has scored in the past in the red zone, that is better than any back up fullback we had last year do. Maybe he will get a label of fullback, maybe he will not , but I think he stays for the reasons that have previously been stated. when he was first signed by the niners,, it was stated in may articles on the front news page of the web zone about his career and what he did for oakland so i hope that answers bullet point number one
QB - Smith, Kaepernick, Johnson
RB - Gore, Hunter, James, Jacobs
FB - Bruce Miller
TE - Davis, Walker, Byham
WR - Moss, Crabtree, Manningham, Jenkins, Ginn
OT - Staley, Davis, Boone, Person (T/G)
OG - Iupati, Kilgore, Looney, Person (T/G)
OC - Goodwin, Slowey

DE - McDonald, Justin Smith, Tukuafu, Dobbs, Jean-Francois
NT - Sopoaga, Jean-Francois
OLB - Brooks, Aldon Smith, Haralson, Fleming, Cam Johnson
ILB - Bowman, Willis, Grant, Gooden
CB - Rogers, Brown, Culliver, Cox, Brock
FS - Goldson, Spillman, Nelms
SS - Whitner, Jones

K - Akers
P - Lee
LS - Jennings
All of these mock 53 mans have Person making it. I don't feel like he's anywhere close to being a lock. Looking above I don't think Nelms makes it either. I could also easily see Johnson going to the PS for a year both for ordinary development reasons, and while they build up his body right and get a feel for any limits.

I think Cartwright and Colin Jones make it as ST's players. Our guys take ST's seriously and I'd actually list these two players under a seperate ST's category.

For the last open spot I think Williams, and even Owusu, have a good chance at it. It could go to a different spot, but if they project higher on the WR depth chart than Ginn I think we push to 6 WR's (basically putting Ginn in that ST's specialist category).

agree on Person, think he goes to the PS

No way Jacobs doesn't make this team as the goal line power back. And I can't see Kaepernick inactive on Gamedays, all three will be active.

His contract isn't guaranteed, but I think that he would be good to keep around as opposed to a 5th OLB. Cam Johnson is going to be a project because of his health, but I have no idea how good the kid Fleming is from Notre Dame. One of them may be the odd man out.
I can't believe I'm writing this but for the first time in many, many years, the Niners are going to have to cut some really good players...

...and I say this because if they try to hide guys like QB Tolzien, WR Owusu, and RB Hampton on the practice squad, it ain't a gonna work...

As soon as those guys hit the cut list, they will be picked up by other teams.

agree with this

why. He is very valuable, capt of special teams, can play backup fullback, can return kicks. to many intangibles. no he stays

I thought Rock used to be a short yardage/power running back.I would hope that he'll be given the opportunity in training camp and preseason. If he can still be effective, we won't need either Jacobs or Dixon.

I could see them keeping a backup fullback on PS this season instead of on the 53, in case Miller goes down for a long period. For short term, I suspect they would use Walker as the H-back and Sopoaga as short yardage fullback as replacement.

Improvement in the overall roster quality could end up being detrimental to our special team. Seely may be asked to sacrifice some of his guys like Jones or Gooden.
