Actually lots of people were disgruntled with him as fans. But after 95' things changed a bit. I was very young and just missed out on the Montana era, Always been a huge Young fan. I think I truly started watching in the 90 season, I think Jerry Rice held out through training camp that year. Very peculiar, I was 6 going on 7 and nobody in my family watched football, they still really dont but I watched every Sunday and often times watch ESPN hoping for new highlights when the Niners game weren't aired in Hawaii.

So you got there just as they were transitioning. howd you get into football with such little influence? Or were the niners that big in hawaii?
I understand the love for Joe though. Ive seen enough games of his to just be wowed. Lionel Messi reminds me of Montana. Guy who doesnt look like much, quiet but when he touches the ball its just magic.
But Young, man, that guy was made to be an NFL QB. I can see why we were so proud.

Yes. But we're back my friend,
We will be s**tting on teams for the next 5 years at least, especially on defense. We just need that O to catch up and we could be looking at an undefeated season.

God damn was he fast. That run against the Rams, was Vick'ess (just a reference for the youngins) with the players colliding with each other trying to tackle him.....then he pulls the ultimate juke to get the TD. AMAZING!
it was just unfair back then to have a 6'3 230 QB running that fast, who was agile. Loved them bootlegs and playactions rollouts......I miss them.

There were a lot of plays earlier in his career that didn't make the YouTube highlights, where he came out of seemingly pile of guys from a sure sack and started running around getting good yards. It was crazy. People were wondering why the hell is he not at running back instead of holding a clipboard on the sideline waiting for Montana.

You know I never thought of the comparison of Messi to Montana but it kinda works. Other traits that they share are the fact they when they play they made it look so easy and they are both some of the most clutch players to ever play their sport. They both play at their best in the biggest most important games. I grew up and started watching football during the Montana era, also I'm a huge Barca fan and have been watching Messi since he came up so I have a pretty good prespective.

I don't know what it was I just loved football. Loved playing it in the school yard and loved watching it as a kid. I would lay infront of the TV and watch it all day, which didn't seem that amazing until I had a few kids. They couldn't lay sit still for 20 mins to save their lives. 49ers are bigger in Hawaii then most other teams just due to locale, from my memory. You have to be a diehard fan of any east coast team out there because generally their games start at 7am in the morning, if I remember correctly.

Also, go gamecocks! Hope we draft Alshon.... in the Third lol. I would be excited for Stephon or Engram, who wouldn't though for Engram. Me and my wife went to every home game last season.
