people i repeat people, we will NOT sign guys commanding to be the highest paid players in the league. thats not the way we opperate, we take care of our own 1st. so those wanting or expecting baalke to go after nicks, williams, v jackson if hes commanding double digits per yr and etc be prepared to be highly disappointed. expect guys like meachem, garcon or any other 2nd tier or guys for depth, i will faint if we come away with a huge name depending on the money. thats why sadly i dont see us going after wallace which would be the only player in fa that i would be ok spending good money on. were not the same 9ers team starving for talent where we need to grossly overpay a guy in free agency

The majority of those who follow this website don't understand NFL contracts.
Williams is not a 3-4 OLB, and will end up signing with a team that employs a 4-3 to play DE, for a lot more money than we paid Brooks.
Williams was playing in a 3-4 this year and recorded 5 sacks in 5 games.. Granted we didnt get a full season of watching him, but when i was watching he was in beast mode and caused alot of hurrys as well.
Secondly its not hard to understand the incentives and hey brooks get 15 sacks and u get a 2million bonus. ok forsure if he meets that he'll be at a Mario level, but chances of that happening are slim to none, So YES it HELPS our team Cap wise, but does it help our team win a superbowl wise by grading talent if Super Mario is playing at SUPER mario level, and Brooks is playing at 2 years ago attitude issues level... -_-

You arnt going to come close to signing Williams with Brooks deal. He is going to command 11 to 14 mil a year. We are good at our front seven cant see to change it.

Because the 49ers are building a TEAM and not Mario-Williams-and-a-bunch-of-other-guys... in other words, he's too expensive.

It's not that... we built through the draft on seperate occasions in the 80's yes.. but when our team right now is a player or two away from being in the superbowl, IF that.. you pull the trigger.. in 2 years guys' contracts will be up and we will be in the same predicament as losing key players etc, Justin smith is ONLY getting older and hes a big $ value on our roster.. gotta look outside the box and not believe that everyones gonna be on our team forever.. if you have a shot at the bowl and need 1 player to make that run and have the $ to do so you do it.. If we dont have the $ then we cant obviousley but im saying if we do have the $ theres no reason not to.

Yeah, but this isn't the 90's, there's a salary cap now and we are not one player away from the super bowl... and if we were, that one player would not be Mario Williams.
