His figure of 2.85M is wrong. If he has 50K roster bonuses per game, thats 800K a yr, plus 1.5M pro-ration and 750K salary is 3.05M Or he is pro-rating the bonus incorrectly, it's no longer 6 seasons, it's 5 seasons, which would be 1.5M.

Also his salaries are off, his 2017 salary is 6.95m in base, plus the 800K in roster bonuses.

His cap figures should be,

2012- 750K Base, 1.5M bonus and 800K roster bonuses = 3.05M

2013- 4.3M base, 1.5M bonus and 800K roster bonuses = 6.6M

2014- 5.15M base, 1.5M bonus and 800K roster bonuses = 7.45M

2015- 6M base, 1.5M bonus and 800K roster bonuses = 8.3M

2016- 6.5M base, 1.5M bonus and 800K roster bonuses = 8.8M

2017- 6.95M base and 800K roster bonuses = 7.75M

That's a base value of $41.95M

For those wondering, the base salaries are from the NFLPlayers website, I have access to the base salary database.

That's still pretty darn good for this year to sign other people. Might be tough on the cap after 2012 though.

Once again the Grandmaster delivers

So Brooks' Cap hit is really only about 3 million for next year

Which leaves, what 27, to sign other FAs

Next year is our window if we can get our offense pumped up to top 15

All that handwringing on not having money just went out the window

As always, great job AB

I do think Maiocco is pro-rating it over 6 seasons. If he is, then its 750K base, 1.25M bonus and 800K roster, which would be 2.8M.

Here is the note from the new CBA,

It's in Article 13, Section 6, b (i): Bonus shall be pro-rated over the term of the contract "with a maximum proration of five years…" There's an exception, but it doesn't seem to serve to extend that limit.
Wait??? So our front office didn't spend an exorbidant amount on brooks? But we've all been so panicked for the last few days. I thought we blew everything to overpay brooks?

Seriously though. Thanks as always AB.

Nothing super suprising here honestly. Hopefully everyone will calm down a bit. To be honest I remain highly confident we will get our guys.

Rogers says he wants to deal. Goldson has dumped Rosenhaus for niner frendly CAA and likely regrets not signing the deal we offered last year. At this point I'm the most worried about keeping Morgan. Then again he strikes me as the kind of guy that won't chase the big money.

You have to assume we are working hardest on Goldson because he is the likely tag candidate and if we can save a few bucks then good. Rogers may have been an all pro this year but he is also 31 and having his best season with us while underpreforming with the skins means teams might not pay for skills that are arguably suited for our system.

Here is what Maiocco had to say:
Brooks' future cap figures are $6.65 million in 2013, $7.5 million in 2014, 8.35 million in 2015, $6.35 million in 2016, and $5.3 million in 2017. Those amounts include roster bonuses in which Brooks receives approximately $50,000 for every game he is active in the regular season, a source said. Read more: Brooks' deal counts $2.85 million against 2012 cap Also, I think someone mentioned he loses 50,000 if he misses a game.

But that's ok if they are that much because we need the money now more than then because the cap should go up with the new tv deals (according to the experts).

I'm looking at the article again, it;s strange because he has his 2013 year is almost correct, he has 50K more than I do, his roster bonuses may be for all 17 weeks, as opposed to 16 games. Thats the extra 50K for this year he has. I tweeted him, hopefully he responds, I asked if he is pro-rating over 5 or 6 seasons.

He is also right on 2014, 2015 but is off from mine for 2016 and 2017. I'm wondering if the "league source" gave him non-accurate information on base salaries. Because in the nflpa database his numbers are different. Maybe NFLPA has them wrong, but they usually never have them wrong.
So it sounds as though the FO made a good contract for Brooks, and for us? Now we will see who gets signed next.

Lets see where to start. Before this signing I had us at 24.488M under, now that included Brock, Tukuafu and Grant tenders, Spillman's deal(projection), and Goldson's franchise tag number. Now we save an additional 3.3M by cutting or trading Spencer. So that puts us up to 27.788M under.

I projected last night that we would need around $2.5M to sign draft picks, mostly the first 3 rounds, the other picks in rd's 4-7 only will matter at the bonus money for the year. So that takes us down to $25.288M under.

I haven't seen information for Brooks. I imagine he got a signing bonus, plus a first year roster bonus, and low base salary, possibly a 5M Signing Bonus(pro-rated over 5 season at 1M a yr), a 4M Roster Bonus and a 700K base salary. Meaning his 1st yr salary would be around 5.7M, now hopefully it's a bit lower, maybe around 4M total.

Interesting tidbit, the cap in 2013 may NOT go up much more than the 2012 cap, which shoule be between 120-125M, which means we need to backload some contracts into 2014 and beyond. Which may make extending say Bowman difficult until end of 2013.

Guys who will be looking at long term extensions are, Iupati, A.Davis, Bowman, Lee, and possibly Walker. It will be interesting after 2012 what we do with Sopoaga and Jean Francois. Jean Francois shouldnt be difficult, likely a 3yr deal, maybe 2M average at most.

Right now these guys are signed long term.

2017- OLB Ahmad Brooks and LT Joe Staley
2016- ILB Patrick Willis
2015- DE Ray McDonald, OT Alex Boone and TE Vernon Davis

Free Agents after 2014 include

Anthony Davis, Mike Iupati, Aldon Smith(though he will either have his option picked up for 2015 or extended in the 2014 offseason when allowed), Frank Gore(Though he probably retires or is 2nd/3rd back by then), Brian Jennings(who knows how long he plays), Michael Crabtree, Bruce Miller, Chris Culliver, Kendall Hunter and CJ Spillman are notables. Others like Mike Person, Daniel Kilgore, Colin Jones and Colin Kaepernick are secondary.

After 2013 include

NaVorro Bowman, Justin Smith, David Akers(Not sure how long he plays for), Donte Whitner are the most notable, others like Kyle Williams(who may not be back in 2012), Anthony Dixon, Nate Byham are secondary.

Cap wise future years is fine, last time checked we had 88M committed for 2013. A lot is thanks to retsructuring Willis' deal in october.

Why does every other site have us with 37 mil in space?

Did you not count the 16.7 mil roll-over from last year?
