replace Haralson with draft pick.
keep haralson, add a draft pick
haralson makes too much for a backup now, consider him gone
Parys Haralson started at right outside linebacker and played base downs while Aldon Smith entered games in pass-rush situations. Haralson is scheduled to earn $2.45 million in 2012, which the 49ers might consider too high for a backup.Read more: Report: Brooks close to re-signing Tune to SportsNet Central at 6, 10:30 and midnight on Comcast SportsNet Bay Area for more on this story
TRADE HIM OR MAKE HIM TAKE A PAYCUT
hell no, he is our only backup OLB
ahmad brooks played almost every down last year. aldon smith is expected to play every down this upcoming year. that doesn't leave much playing time for parys. you want to pay him $2.45 mil to sit all year?
Aldon could struggle early on forcing the team to give Parys more reps. Not to mention injury. He probably would take a pay cut down to 1.5 million
Why not just keep Aldon on passing downs and keep his legs fresh. Parys can do all the run-downs dirty work.

he is worth $7 million a year??
He's 27 years old in the prime of his career and coming off a productive season. Good OLB's are not that easy to find, so its a good move to keep the band together.
I agree. No matter what anyone wants to say, Brooks is a talented freak. Aldon WILL get double teamed next year and Brooks showed he is very capable of getting to the QB, chasing down RB's, and solid vs the pass. I actually think he's going to get better next year being in his prime. Our key 5 rushers will be the best in the league.
Agreed. We wanted a 10 sack guy on the team. Because of Aldon, Brooks gets over-looked. He still had 7 and started every game. Aldon still has some learning to do before he just takes the job from Parys... When Aldon does come in, He or J. Smith is going to get double teamed and I think that will allow Brooks more opportunities for Sacks and disrupting the QB. I'm glad we are resigning him.
49ers re-signed OLB Ahmad Brooks to a six-year extension.
ESPN's Josina Anderson reports the maximum value of Brooks' deal is $44.5 million. Coming off a career year with 50 tackles, seven sacks, and three passes defensed as an every-down player on the NFL's second-best defense, Brooks would have been one of the premier strong-side linebackers on the market. Turning 28 next month, Brooks' 1,123 snaps were fourth on Vic Fangio's defense. The 49ers paid a premium, but they're now set at linebacker with Brooks and Aldon Smith on the outside and Pro Bowlers Patrick Willis and Navorro Bowman on the inside.

Yes! This is the next priority on defense for a few reasons:
2. Safties in this Defense hold a lot of responsibility
3. Goldson's production
Rogers is no dummy. He knows he was allowed to undercut a lot of out routes and in routes due to Goldson's and Whitner's responsibility over the top. Rogers would not be able to replicate this season without that type of Safety responsibility Defense.
