You want big?......Vincent Jackson.
You want fast?......Vincent Jackson.
You want a red zone threat?.....Vincent Jackson.
You want a proven guy?.....Vincent Jackson.
He seems to have a lot of the qualities we are looking for. A lot of WZers are not familiar with him and thus they keep posting Colston and such. Because they watch more NFC than AFC. But I live in SD and trust me Vincent Jackson is the real deal. I'd only take Megatron over him for very big tall WR's. Smaller guys with speed like Djax are different guys. I'm talking very tall, fast and productive. And I'd only take Megatron over him. Nobody else.

We need a receiver who is fearless going over the middle. Morgan is pretty good in this regard and Williams tried but the 9ers did not do well in the short middle range of the passing game. Smith excelled in the long ball at times and VD, Walker, Ginn, Williams and Morgan can all go deep (Crabtree can as well).
But how many of these guys are really strong in the middle in traffic? Williams is too small and Crabtree seems timid in the middle at times (don't blame him) but he's a pretty big guy and this should be his bread and butter. Morgan showed the ablility to play a physical game, though he was less physical in 2010. Edwards was the best receiver last year playing tough in the middle but after his injury he disappeared...didn't heal? Or?
The 9ers desperately need a guy who can own the middle and at the same time be a target in the RZ--same kind of situation, congested and a lot of contact. So, to me it guts over size or speed.

SIZE - Obviously, big and deep threat are ideal - VJax, DBowe, maybe even the Laurent. But I would take size over speed. The #1 priority is a target that helps get first downs -- so that means plays physical to the ball and is tough over the middle, and has size to body out DBs for the ball. Those qualities are also key in the red zone.

Okayy I see how one could argue this. The bold players are in my mind by far greater than Bowe and Italicized names I'd take over Bowe.

We already have a couple deep threats.
Which wide receivers are deep threats?
we have none
Yup, Vernon Davis and Ted Ginn don't exist.
Neither have fantastic hands, but both are extremely fast. VD is a very good deep threat and Ginn is a so so one. Still they are deep threats...or did you think they were possession WRs?

I want a BIG, PHYSICAL wide receiver on third down. The type of guy that will throw the opposing corner to the side when they try to jam him, en route to an easy 3rd down conversion. It was the reason why Terrell Owens was so good. He had deep speed and that made him a vertical threat... and he had the tackle-breaking ability to turn at 5 yard play into a 50 yard TD... but his physicality got him separation and it was the MAIN reason why he was so dominant. We haven't had a receiver like that since we left.
Not hating on Alex, but truthfully, he won't make the deep throw successfully too often. He'll throw those short/intermediate passes all day. Give him someone that can tear it up within ten yards of the line of scrimmage.
