Keep him! No doubt. He's worth a good 10-15 sacks per season in him. Still developing.

If we can afford him, you have to keep him. The Linebacker's are the strength of this defense and Brooks is a sizable part of that. I would say if you assume Goldson is franchised he is number three on the proirity list behind Carlos and Alex.

Ahmad has developed into a solid all-around OLB...once simply a pass rusher, he's got the full game now. IMHO, he's a keeper, so trust Harbaugh/Baalke feel the same way.

Like almost everything else in life - it depends on how much $ he demands. Last year Goldston was not valued for the price he was asking so he came back to us for a one year. I feel there will be a number of FA who won't get what they're asking and may consider us for a one year deal to boost their value.
Not sure if there is anyone better in FA who would command the same amount Brooks will be seeking.

Like all our FA, its all about price. The 9ers will decide what he's worth to them and try to sign him. If he wants significantly more, we spend the money elsewhere and draft a younger guy at the position.

We need to try and keep him. His closing speed is faster than most in the league. He's a prototype strong-side 3-4 OLB.

Well he had 8 in his first year playing straight up and taking on double-teams most of the year including the playoffs. That's exactly half of Manny Lawson's entire 6 year career combined (how quickly we forget!). But it's the 3rd in pressures/hits and TFL that were most impressive to me and his instincts - he is the full package.
So IF we can find a way to sign him (and you know this FO can do it) VF will be able to add more of the playbook and isolate Brooks/Smith even more. People don't realize fully yet how special this defense was for it's first year. Give this LB group 2 or 3 years together and they COULD become that old Saints crew, no doubt!

Keeping Brooks, we are possibly looking that the best LB Crew in the league. We already have two of the top 5 MLBs in the league. We have a top 5 pass rushing LB who is still developing. Man, Brooks keeps showing more and more each year. With Justin Smith, Ice, and McDonald...
...Effin Beast front 7.
And this doesn't even include some of our developing guys who have shown good things coming in from the backup role...guys like Dobbs and RJF.

We're going to be filling his spot in the draft I would assume. I'm thinking he's going to get offers that we're won't have any interest in matching.

It takes a lot to be a 3-4 outside backer and Aldon Smith didn't even play that role for us this year, we would have been exposed if he started. Haralson is underrated too. Also this was his first year as a full time starter as OLB with a new playbook. Don't you think this guy is going to get better? And if you do let him go, then we are superthin at OLB. I'm surprised we didn't have any injuries there.
7.5 sacks
46 pressures 3rd on the team
12 tackles for losses
However, I do believe the Niners will pick up another OLB/DE in the draft. I'm thinking 3rd, 4th round project with speed.
Much like nearly ever free agent in the history of sports, keep him for the right price, let him go for the wrong price.

I think we should consider throwing Dware money at him. Cut Willis & Bowman if we have to.

8 mill a year? no thanks
Patrick Willis doesnt even make that
Matt Barrows @mattbarrows
Depends on who gets tagged. Brooks seeking $8M-a-year deal.@damo49ers: How much leverage does Brooks have considering lack of depth at OLB?
