Don't forget special teams. Ginn provided us with a 40-yard return on that last drive.
Right, well I definitely agree that our offense MUST improve. Our passing offense was actually terrible in that game. But I do think if our offense does improve, with this defense we can still compete with the best teams and will have a very good chance to make a deep playoff run again.

Also, how many times in our dynasty years did we win 13 or repeat a 12+ win season? How many times do current teams repeat a 13 win season. Unless our passing game vastly improves, don't expect us to win 13. We may win the superbowl, but the odds are very low that it is after a 13 win season.

I'm not really expecting that we'll have another 13 win season. I think more along the lines of 11 or 12 wins. But I also don't think that there will be another 15-1 team next season and thus I think 11 or 12 wins could get you the 2nd or even the 1st seed.

Poor Ralph is getting old and losing it. No one listens to KNBR any more. Damon should move over to 95.7.

Because what they are saying is true. This was more than likely our best chance at a SB with this current squad and even with Harbaugh. These chances come once every 10 years for teams that don't have an ELITE franchise QB.
Well Alex Smith was already better than we ever thought he could be. This with no offseason due to the lockout and 1 year in the same system. With marginal WR's. Why can't he be better with 2 years in the system, a full offseason with Harbaugh and some FA / Draft WR's?.....
Next year AS has to be more than a game manager...I could see him getting better and taking more chances...hopefully...but even with all that being said, I really don't see how the cards could fall in our favor any better than they did this year...we were quite possibly the best team in the league and we didn't even get a chance to play in the SB .
Well you can thank Kyle Williams for that. It's not Alex's fault. We were going to win that game IMO. We had not 1 but 2 boneheaded punt return fumbles. Our team was playing so well we could have maybe overcome 1 of those. But not 2. You can't spot them the ball inside the 10 and around the 20 on fumbles in a tight defensive battle. Just unreal. Still can't believe the guy did that.
Yes it was a golden opportunity. GB lost. We had homefield for the NFC Championship. We were winning the game. A very real chance at going to the Super Bowl.

I don't care if we don't win 13 games again or win the division, I care that we make it to the playoffs and win the damn games. I seriously doubt, Brees and Rodgers are proud of the regular season record when didn't do them any good in the end. I certainly will never mention our record in conversation- cause it doesn't mean s**t

Niners fans are rightfully upset. We should have been in the Superbowl this season but our extremely overated qb finally cost us in the biggest game of the year. Throwing interceptions isn't the only measure of a s**tty qb. Killing drives with passes in the dirt or missing open receivers by a mile (even with good pass protection) are just as bad.

Kyle Williams cost us the Super Bowl. He fumbled not once but twice. Once inside the 10 and around the 20 something. We gave them 2 scoring drives gift wrapped with a bow. We win that game if he doesn't do that. They weren't moving it that effectively. Although Alex didn't play super IMO he did also have 2 TD's and 0 Int's. Not that bad. KW cost us the Super Bowl. Plain and simple. To put it on something else is rediculous.

The Arbitron Book says you're incorrect.

The Niners didn't convert a single third down in the game yet Alex escapes blame for the loss? In the 4th qtr and overtime he froze like a deer in headlights.

Alex completed two passes for 7 yards in the 4th qtr. At one point late in the 4th qtr our boy Alex threw four consecutive incomplete passes (he had open receivers and good pass protection). In fact on the Niners first play of the 2nd half he had Walker wide open deep for an easy TD and no pressure from the giants passrush. Alex froze up and then started running around looking for an underneath route to open up until he was eventually sacked.
Anyone that thinks Alex mistakes didn't play a major factor in that loss is kidding themselves.

Cut the guy some slack, his JOB is to make people mad and infuriate a response. If he stated he LOVED all of the Niners and Giants moves, he would have been off the air years ago.
Just don't listen, don't call in.

I don't understand why anyone is surprised by this. Barbieri has never asked an x's and o's question in 25 plus years of interviewing. Why you ask? Because he has no idea what the f**k he's talking about. He asks about people's feelings and dogfighting and Barry Zito and womens lib and endless blah blah blah.
No s**t we won't replicate that turnover ratio. To say we're going to not be competitive because of it or whatever is complete horses**t.
Get your mind out of the gutter Ralph.
