Delanie Walker is here talking with teammates. Has open bag of sunflower seeds, he's back to some solid foods. Playoff future unknown still.

Teammates said Walker has made good progress from a week ago, when he was on a liquid diet and unable to talk. Walker now is able to talk with more ease and he is eating solid food. However, Walker's availability is still in question for the 49ers' first playoff game on Saturday, Jan. 14, at Candlestick Park. Walker remains on the 49ers' 53-man roster.

If the dude is already eating solid foods, then the fracture was minimal (meaning they could just gear him up with a Chris Cooley jaw-plated helmet); but I wouldn't play him until the NFC Championship game. -In fact I'm really considering his health, and wouldn't want him to re-injure himself.

Sounds promising. Hopefully if we make NFCC he can play.

That most likely means that the wires to keep the jaw shut were released and switched to elastics (not all that different from the elastics that you put on for braces). Considering wiring the jaw shut can last up to 4-6 weeks after surgery in many cases, this is good news. I suspect he will continue to the wear the metal "arch bars" on his teeth for several more weeks and keep his elastics on.

The report was two fractures of his jaw, one high up on the left side and one near the middle on the right. That's actually very common for jaw fractures - two fracture points. They likely plated the right side close to the mid-line, and if the left side was very high up, just left alone.

I wouldn't risk it unless we make the Superbowl. That'd be six weeks to heal and four weeks on solid foods.

im with you brotha...but if he shows alot of improvement in the NFC championship then MAYBE...cuz i feel that the championship will be a harder game than whoever we go up against in the SB.

We should be prepared for the possibility of no Delanie for the rest of this season.

The best thing we could do for him is to get to the superbowl, and then maybe he can play. :)

It would suck though. I think it can be argued Delanie Walker made the most important catch of the season on that 4th and goal against Detroit (and that throw by Alex I'd put up against anything anyone else in the league threw in the red zone all year).

i'm para-phrasing but he also said they got good news on wednesday about his jaw and said something like hes a tremendous healer

Playing him before the Superbowl seems awfully risky, even if he is a quick healer.

Jim wouldn't play him if there was a risk that it might be prematurely.

Anquan Boldin played 2 weeks after breaking his jaw, its all or nothing for us now,if healthy we cant be saving players for the super bowl cuz if we dont win this week there wont be any super bowl
