Oh I thought this thread was about franchise tagging Dashon. :) He should be tested for crack if he thinks he'll get more then Reed or Troy so yeah I wouldnt pay him that but I think this team and player can come to a deal it'll just take work. There cant be an arguement in him being a top 10 Safety and if NYG's wouldnt of paid lame ass Antrel Rolle so much Dashon wouldnt of been asking for more then was offered.
Goldson is the most overrated 49er on this team. Franchise? I hope not.

Weddle is having a better year. And i would definitely take the other guys CAREER over DGs any day of the week. And franchising him means you(49ers) think he is a top 5 talent, which he is not IMO. Can you imagine a top 5 safety getting abused on that Baldwin play last week? He made Goldson look silly. Goldson takes horrible angles on receivers. And he's pretty careless when he tries to lay the wood. How many times has he NOT wrapped up this year? How many times has he taken out a teammate because he has his head lowered not looking at what he's hitting.

He walked away from a big contract the Niners were offering him last year to test the market (where he was humbled). What is gonna be his asking price now that he's got a pro bowl? 6 mil? 7? Way too much for him imo. If it came to that i would rather take a FS in the draft. I dont want to mortgage the future on an inconsistent safety and not be able to go after better FAs.

There's gotta be an answer to it, what free safety would you draft? There's none worth signing in Free Agency as far as I can see. SO it'd be Reggie Smith or a drafted player.

If it meant paying DG top money or going with a Smith/drafted S, then i would go with the latter. As for what safety to draft, i dunno, a Mcdonald or Henry . Im not a draft guru like some of the other guys on this board.

However i will say that whatever HarBaalke decides to do, i will support it

Yeah, It's pretty amazing at how bad that Rolle deal looks.. even 2 years later. I think the Rolle deal and the Michael Huff/Eric Weddle deals are gonna be what Goldson and his agent are going to be aiming for if he ends up hitting the market. I think he might have the leverage to possibly get it, too, after coming off a Pro-Bowl year.

You guys thought I was crazy when I said franchise tag him. But he is a Pro Bowler now with 6 interceptions. If you think he is going to be cheap now you are kidding yourselves.

Since when Pro-Bowl means getting a Franchise tag? Anything is possible, but I highly doubt the "pro-bowl" selection makes any difference to Baalke. Bowman didn't get to the pro-bowl, so that alone should tell you a thing or two about how accurate these pro-bowl selections really are when it comes to analyzing someone's play.

I still disagree. He is a liability in coverage imo, as he takes horrible angles. He just isnt a safety i would want to back the truck up to and dump tons of money on. He's too inconsistent. Hes not worth top 5 money.

name 5 thats better then him.

really?

Reed
Polamalu
Berry
Weddle (this year)
Earl Thomas
Michael Griffin

I would take any of these over DG

throw in Bethea, a healthy Nick Collins and there, thats 7 without really trying
Polumalu is a SS

Berry is glass, but a beast when healthy

Weddle is a LB playing saftey, not great in coverage, good in zones his size scares me

Griffin is way to inconsistent

Bethea im sorry to say is done, hes a one system guy.

So really you have 3 and half guys on there (Berry is the half)

and it really doesn't matter what we think because obviously the players and coaches thought he was worthy of a PB

Bowman is very overrated. Although he has played well. The attention of the blocking schemes goes to Willis when he is healthy. Leaving Bowman free to roam and make as many tackles as he wants. We also ask Willis to go in coverage because he is so fast. Leaving Bowman at the line of scrimmage to pad his tackle stats.

Yup you said it. These guys never come up with 5 or 10 guys better. They just think they can.

Yea, all those things were true for TKO too, but he never dominated like Bowman did. Bowman is not over-rated. This is crazy talk.

...and no Willis isn't asked to go in coverage because he is so fast. Fast has little to do with it. Willis was fast from day 1 on his team, but wasn't asked to go in coverage. He is now asked to do so, because a) he worked on this aspect of his game and b) (more importantly) Bowman is there to run side-line to side-line to make the tackle if it's a running play.

It's because Willis CAN COVER. While Bowman CANNOT. Willis is 4.49 at the combine. Bowman is more of 4.7 guy with good instincts.

Willis had that speed since he was drafted. Why is he being asked to cover more this season? Again, speed has little to do with covering a TE over the middle. Speed is the least important attribute when it comes to covering the middle.
I dont know why people hate on Dashon hes a beast you cant ask for much more in a safety. Hes has size, speed, range, and a fearless tackler that people take for granted. Im telling you right now if he played on the cowboys giants etc( teams that are on tv every week) he would be a superstar. Ok every 4th game he might give up a TD and people act like hes not good enough to play on thier team. Give me a break... Have you guys watched Reggie Smith at all that guy couldnt take the right angle if he had a super sized protractor on the field. I WOULD PAY DASHON BEFORE ROGERS DASHON IS HOME GROWN PAY THE MAN!!! He was a 4th round pick and paid his dues I dont know what more you want.
