How would 5-1 put us behind Dallas at 5-3?
In terms of Superbowl appearences it would. Would Dallas fans have a vaild point saying they are the better franchise because they've gone more than we have?
Because they have lost more than we have?!!!! In that case why aren't they already ahead of us?
C'mon now, you know that arguement can be made. It would be no different than the arguement made on this board if the records were reversed.
Well, answer my second question, then. Why aren't they already ahead of us?
They very well could be. The list above isn't official, its just as subjective as power rankings.

honestly I'd rather not make it to the super bowl than lose in it. It'd just be so devastating, a la 2002 SF Giants.

appearances in sb's dont mean s**t, some would be suprised to know that denver and new england have played in more sb's than sf, winning them is what matter.

1. Steelers - 6-2
2. 49ers - 5-0
3. Cowboys - 5-3
4. Packers - 4-1
5. Giants - 3-1
Another good questions is do appearences mean more than wins? As of now we can say we are undeafeated which could argueably put us ahead of Pittsburgh and Dallas. We won't be able to make that arguement with a loss.
Discuss.
I think they'd remain behind the Steelers but, if I had to choose, I'd rather they not make it then make it to the SB and lose since they've never lost a SB.

By the undefeated logic
Saints> Cowboys, Steelers. It doesn't hold water.
I would put us behind Dallas and Pit.

Wins. If one must rank...it comes down to wins and wins only. If a team went three times and lost all three...they would be below a team who went only once and won.

I would cry. Can't imagine the 49ers ever losing a Super Bowl. To have this team go 6-0, 7-0 in the Super Bowl would be absolutely amazing and would help put the 49ers back on top as the best franchise in the NFL.
