big surprise, to me BigMike will forever be remembered as BM...bowel movement mike. It is hard to imagine how much damage a guy who was promoted way over his level of capability was able to do. He helped ruin our OL, QB, RB, WRs, (did help Vernon) and LBs, but had no clue for DLs, CBs or DBs. His playcalling for O was abysmal, and his game calling for D was great against the run. Problem is the nfl is a passing league. Game strategies stunk, and game changes at halftime were non existent. The bringing in the amazing OC, who was about the only guy who would take the job (and everyone knew no one else wanted him) was disgraceful. That was the low water mark for me...hence the BM handle. Noln screwed this team up badly, but BM managed to magnify that...a job that should have been impossible, but BM succeeded in screwing us up worse. That is not the kind of legacy one would want to leave. Best day of that yr was the day he got so deservedly canned. And it was only fitting that he got fired just before the season ended. That was poetic.

The OP, has a valid point. I AM GLAD HE IS GONE ...
I believe all the losing during his reign, has made many of you that have replied in this thread, not want to grasp what he is trying to convey.

... he certainly instilled a sense of pride and a more team-oriented mentality ... he was unprepared for the Xs and Os side of things ... Harbaugh was necessary to take the next step ... It's quite possible Vernon Davis isn't the force he is today without Singletary ...

NOT !!! Remember the BIG NICKEL, really had opposing OC shaking in their cleats

Singletaru wanted a tough physical team! But lacked the knoweledge n coachs on staff to put us in a position to do well! Harbaugh has the it factor and has an offensive phylosophy that works. Best of luck to singletary in his coaching future ventures! Harbaugh is our coach and doing a helluva job goniners

Under Nolan the 9ers D went from a 26th rating his first year to 13th his last year (2008). The next year, under Singletary? 15th (2009). I call that going backwards but I'm sure you have a math formula that explains why 15th is better than 13th? Singletary did bring the team back to 13th his second year (2010).
My point was that Nolan improved the D dramatically and Singletary did nothing to improve it but actually regressed his first year. So, Nolan built the D from near the bottom to 13th. I am not a Nolan fan but do appreciate his efforts on the D side of team.

Hell no. The only coach we have had the past 10 years that I would be close to thanking would be Nolan. The team def got better under his watch...just not good enough.

Seriously bro come on man we were physical before Singletary, The only thing i can say he did was coach up our linebackers and Helping turn VD around. even tho he didnt want to draft Patrick Willis lols. I have to say that i lost alot of faith in Mike when he ''Thanked'' the seahawks for beating our ass last year man that pissed me off

I thank him for trying but guess what? he f'ed up and he got replaced. as for our players, even though they lost many games because of his horrible coaching, I am sure they did benefit from being in the presence of a HOF player a tough player a dedicated player and a real man. u put me in the presence of greatness and let me linger for a while and i am sure i can gleam some of his passion for the game and life and carry it forward for the rest of my days. aside from that I don't remember a lot of intrasquad media squabbling under his reign. Players selflessly worked together to aid each other and towards the improvement of our team. now there supposedly was a rat but we were not the TO show or this years Jets. Sing did his job with poor results and now we have a real coach an experienced coach and yes another former player. we should be grateful for harbaugh and respectful of the job sing tried to do but just could not do. Sing did motivate these players but he didn't know how to stay out of his own way as far as letting the people who knew what they were doing do what they do. Tomsula alluded to this when he said "I tend to keep my spoon in my own soup"

Hope this isn't an attempt at revisionist history.
Lots of coaches would have helped out Davis simply by having an offense that included him and was successful.
Making the players tough? What a myth. They are all tough. They actually look tougher now because one can successfully block players who don't know what is coming. Conversely, you can't easily block guys who make millions of dollars for being big, fast and tough and who know the play that is coming.
Helped the defense? The linebackers? The linebackers look a lot better this year. As do all the defenders actually. Oh, maybe that is because they aren't on the field 75% of the time...

Okay, I stand corrected ... As you are probably aware, statistics only tell part of any tale.
However, 18 games; his team(s) won 18 Games in 3.5 seasons. Never higher than 3rd in
the division:
4-12 (05), 7-9 (06), 5-11 (07), 2-5 (08)
So yes, the jump from 26th to 13th, was a BIG improvement; Kudos to him ... but then what happened?
I say, he lost the team, why, Bad HC. No, I don't have any MAGICAL formula. Sing going 15, and then
back to 13, isn't much of a difference either. Both coaches weren't offensive geniuses.
The Big Nickel to me, was just a Joke. As I stated, I AM GLAD HE IS GONE. I guess what's going on here,
is a matter of opinion, point of view, and how we view this topic of conversation. Bottom line; although I don't
totally agree with the OP, I see some merit in what he tried to convey ... you don't. So be it.
