He believed as long as you work your ass off(and have God on your side of course) you've got a chance to win any given Sunday, the problem with that thinking is that EVERY team works their ass off every sunday. I'll give him credit for motivating a young Vernon Davis however.
We can also thank Singletary's subordinates, had Raye been a decent playcaller(Or Mike Johnson replacing him) we could still have Singletary as coach. It's scary to imagine having him still coaching our team.
No chance of that happening... It became clear very fast that any competent coordinator was going to have nothing to do with him. Scott Linehan was a lock to come here, has a few meeting with Singletary and left for Detroit.

I suppose I can thank Singletary for that...though it was really painful to experience at the time.

If it wasn't for him, not sure how tough and ready this team would be right now under Harbaugh. At least he (Sing) had them mentally prepared and got them all to toughen up. We were a "soft" team for many years, even under Mooch. Sign in a way built the foundation for an intimidating defense, and tried to do the same for our offense, but he just didn't understand how.

I would also give Singletary credit for turning VD around. Davis seemed to mature after getting humiliated by Singletary on national TV. Though, I don't think that tactic would work with many players.

I've thought about that too. Analysts think Harbaugh was the first to install the tough and physical play this year. We've been a tough team

The OP isn't without merit. Singletary was undoubtedly one of the best linebackers coaches in the league, and he certainly instilled a sense of pride and a more team-oriented mentality. However, he was unprepared for the Xs and Os side of things, and wasn't good with offensive coaching. Nor did he really seem interested in becoming good at it.
I think this team benefited in some ways from Singletary's presence, but Harbaugh was necessary to take the next step. It's quite possible Vernon Davis isn't the force he is today without Singletary, for one thing.

Yeah this makes more sense sarcastically. Like "Thanks for failing to succeed with much of the same talent on this football team."

Yep "Thanks for sucking so bad with so much talent that we got the chance to get Aldon Smith", since houston was supposedly targeting him a few picks later and we were a few junk games away from making the playoffs.
Although another scary thing: Had Gore and Smith not been hurt, we might still have singletary...We may have lost those first 5 games but what really nailed the coffin shut was losing to the rams late in the season with inadequate running by Dixon and horrible decision-making by Troy.
