Will Hunter take the #1 spot on sunday?

Wouldn't it be something if the O-line pulls it together and has a monster day run blocking vs. the apparently poor run defense of the Eggles. What if the line blocks harder for Hunter more so than Gore. I wasn't one that was too exited about the big contract that Gore got in the offseason because it seemed to me that Gore had not done that well towards the end of last season.

some players do exactly that. that's why its an assumption. citing his desire as a positive trait and a reason that he should or could become our #1 RB relies completely on your assumption that his level of desire is equal to the desire you assume he has. If anything, one could argue that over his career Frank Gore has exhibited the "most desire" of any player on our team. Does Hunter have more desire than Frank Gore?

my point is that Hunter's Hunger (dibs on that for a restaurant name, and/or porn name) is a silly thing that I've seen pop up in several threads, and I don't know where people are seeing this.
At this point i might say yes, hunter has more desire than gore. Of course again its speculation, but gore is injnured, has a brand new contract, and isnt doing well...all of which play a role in his moral.

Its also about skill and i think at this point, especially with gore hurt, i think hunter is better. Its been shown that hunter is better so far this season.

Gore's contract requires him to play at a high level to even sniff any of that money. Comments like this definitely lead me to believe that the Hunter love is partly also Gore hate, a kind of retribution against him for wanting a new contract. His not playing well, whatever the reasons, fuel that, and fuel the myth that Hunter is playing with more desire because Gore has lost desire.

Looking at the numbers, the guys have played more or less equally crappy so far. Hunter has a nice burst and has gotten to show it on maybe two or three short plays this season, but overall the numbers don't lie.

i do agree, however, that with Gore hurt, Hunter should see more carries. This game, against a poor Eagles run D, should be the game to get our running game going. If Hunter is going to take advantage of his opportunities, it should be this game.

Just curious, where can I look to or do you have a link to confirm this?
I would like to see more of Hunter. My concern is that the Eagles have a very Talented D-line, and the Niners O-line well is the Niners O-line. If somehow the O-line can put some actual blocking together (not holds) than I say give him more carries. One thing that would worry me is starting him or giving him more carries, and him getting stuffed the entire day cause of our O-line (Hunter's confidence may go down). However Philly's linebackers are young and have virtually no experience I have watched film of them play, and they over pursue on just about every playaction or counter run.

SO IN SHORT O-LINE PLEASE BLOCK!!!!!

Go Niners!!!

I like Hunter but I dont think he is a every down back. Its time for the RB by committee approach.
No because 2.9 ypc isnt any better than 2.7. Gore when he took Barlows jobs had over 5 ypc.
I still haven't lost faith in Gore. I think breaking his hip last year has slowed his body down a little this year, but I'm certain Gore will return to form at some point, could be this year or next. He has the kind of heart, determination and work ethic the great ones have to keep going. I mean he was never even supposed to be good because of his knees.

I am also very excited about Hunter, we will see just how good he is very very soon. He is the future.

Thanks.
From that article it seems that it would be in Gore's best interest to remain healthy and productive since the 9ers can opt out of the contract at the end of the 2012 season.

no problem. and yeah, the deal is structured in a way that Gore really has to play to get it. There is no reason for him to "lose his hunger" now because of the contract.

Yeah, because if he loses his hunger then he'll be out of a job at the end of next year 2012. That is a really good deal for the 9ers. And, it doesn't inhibit 2013's salary cap.

He always tries to find ways to hype me up and then when I start buying into it, I get let down!
He'll start the game because he's a captain. But he'll roll that ankle for sure on the third or fourth play and it's going to be KENDALL TIME!

Hope the kid makes the most of it.
