Your opinion is far more overrated on this board than Delanie Walker is.

0-16 Huh?
Vernon Davis is limited to what he can do in term of routes. He's TERRIBLE at what a TE should be which is a safety valve for the QB.

1. He is terrible at the curl routes
2. He is terrible at the option in/out find the zone and sit in it routes.
3. Have yet to see him be effective on a "Hot Route" where he has to immediately look for the ball upon being snapped. Quite a few times he looks late.
4. He is slightly above average at the deep seam as he does not always appear to give 100% effort on difficult catches.
5. He is great when he catches a 15-30 yarder in space with room to run towards the end zone.

Delanie Walker:
1. Has not shown any route weakness.
2. Is very shifty and perfect to be that safety valve for the QB
3. Has shown to have very good hands
4. Has fumbled but that's not a conern
5. Can play lined up out wide better than Vernon

Delanie Walker was not a high first round pick which is why Vernon has been forced fed more and the coaches have had more patience with him picking up the offense and learning his assignments. Delanie hasn't had many issues with learning the offense and route running.

A coach like Bill Belichick would effectively be able to use a shifty TE like Walker. He's had super fast guys like Ben Watson before and he has still used the shifty guys with more success.

Vernon Davis isn't very shifty which hurts us a lot. It is easy to double him as he is limited in his strength of routes.

I'de trade Vernon Davis for Andrew Luck in a heartbeat.
D. Walker has the speed and body type to be an intriguing prospect at TE. But hasn't attained the skill set to be a typical TE. He's a big guy with speed like a WR.
he'll get frustrated, leave, and win a superbowl with the patriots. reigniting the brady vs montana debate.
He has been overrated on this board considering what he has done so far , but with Edwards out and Crab's still lingering foot , and the need to use Davis as a blocker more because of the OL , Harbaugh will get more out of Walker this season.

I think playing behind Vernon makes it more difficult for him to see the field. If he they can some how give him more coaching and experience I think he can be very good. But really there's other areas on the team that need the coaches attention.

Brady needs atleast 5 rings to be in the debate, He lost the perfect season in the SB. Would have nvr happend with Montana. you dont ever hear Bradshaws name in that debate do you?

Besides Montana has the Catch, Brady has the Tuck....

Brady lost a superbowl. Yes, he will need 5 rings AND unreal post season stats similar to Montana.

Career stats for Delanie Walker:

Just to add some perspective.

Other than the fumbles, he has pretty decent stats for a #2 TE in a run-first team with QB issues. People act as if the VD/D-Love combo is a pair of world beaters, but there's great potential there when the running game gets going.
Under-utilized playmaker when put in the right position. The more Harbaugh gets him in that position the better off we are.
Delanie walker is a converted WR who cannot block, and is a crappy return man, and probably one of the most overrated, at least on the webzone, TE's.

Look at what Rob Gronkowsi and Aaron Hernandez are doing after only playing 18 games, this is what I envisioned Harbaugh doing, but so far TE;'s have been invisible.

I have never been a Delanie Walker fan, he simply is a tweener that is over hyped.
