Alex wasn't the biggest story of sat. game......it was the two dumb Oakmeal fans getting what they got for messing with the niner faithful.....hahahahaha Fu** with us!!!!!!
two people getting shot isn't exactly something to joke about, especially when it takes away our right to tailgate after the game starts.
Bro these are Oakland fans........you act like they were angles in the league...I wasnt joking......I think everyone can say that they are the rudest, most annoying, and obnoxious fans in the league......they werent walking along and someone shot them......no they were mouthing off, like Raider fans always do......yea we didnt have shoot them but hey it happend......them getting shot wasnt the whole story.....how it led up to that point is what I want to know about......Im sorry and I feel bad for the families of the two......but lets get real, it wasnt all on the 49er fan.....It never is, when it come to Raider fans.....come on bro.....and I wasnt joking.....
From what I have seen on the news, it was raider on raider violence in the shooting. Most likely gang related having little to do with football other than they happened to be at the football game. If I am incorrect someone please fill me in, I would hate to think one of our fans would be such a moron as to shoot another human being over something as trivial as a football game.
If it was Raider on Raider then what the he** are we talking about.....its got nothing to do with us......

Pasodoc, you started a good discussion here! It is the most promising season in ten years. I don't know if Smith is a Super Bowl QB, who will be able to shine in big games but he has been very good in the red zone and two minute situations. This is a good indication that he is a gamer.
Those who have watched the pathetic offensive schemes over the past eight years and have blamed Smith are just being stubbornly pessimistic. I have always liked Smith's calm, stable demeanor and have hoped (for how many years?) that the niners would go back to the WCO so we could see what these players are capable of in an efficient offense.
The Raiders game was nicely played under very tight restrictions via game plan, and if the 9ers can continue developing we will be very competitive this year. But, to become overly optimistic would be as bad as being totally pessimistic. So...I will be very happy if the niners can finish over 500 with consistent play by the OLine and good play from the QB and WRs.
Why argue about Smith? Harbaugh will see enough this year to judge him and will either push for a long term contract or look for someone else. We should be patient and enjoy the process.

dtg, this was not an alex thread as you figured out, this was a commentary on a really fine team who for the first time in 8 yrs doesn't have a dumb dumb as a HC. Also as noted before, and I have said this back in post mooch days, HC HAS to be an OC, or you lose the good ones, and keep the bad ones. That be us. Harbaugh and I think baalke are for real, and last saturday was what i have been waiting for the last 8 yrs. As for alex, well 8 yrs later he finally got his QB/OC/HC...and the kid deserves it. I said all along, i couldn't evaluate him if he had no OL nor any semblance of a game plan. Mainly however, we are reverting back to the days or yore, when the HC could coach every position on the field, DB to OL to QB, and knew all the moves, all the philosophy. Walsh knew and did all that. At stanford, JH gave a pretty good showing of himself. Saturday i saw harbaugh all over that field, on D, O, and scheme calling, both O and D. Additionally he just so happens to be aQB coach...and seemed to do pretty well with a kid at stanford.
Lamdachi, great piece, and it was vintage lowell. When montana won the SB, lowell wasn't convinced. 2nd SB was probably luck. third was inferior team, 4th, well, lowell had a few good things to say, but for the record, one really wonders if that guy ever made it to a game, or he just mailed it in after reading box score. The lowell you just wrote about has been this way since I have followed the niners, starting with joe's 1st yr. You did hang him out to dry however, or in the parlance, Pawned him. Nice job.

No, now real fans who want to watch the game, and come just for the game, are gonna be afraid to show up, and ticket sales will go down. The crowd won't be able to generate as much noise, therefor worse home field advantage.

Alex made some good throws, and he did look good overall, but he also had his trademark boneheaded INT, and he had zero TDs. To quote Bill Walsh (re: Steve Deberg, and highly applicable to our own Alex Smith), "he's just good enough to get you beat". Rookie Andy Dalton played better than Alex in his last pre-season game. And of course we have a sizeable list of NFL rookie QBs since 2005 who played better in their first year than Alex has anytime in 7 years.
Every year we read in the pre-season how good Alex's accuracy has been, what a leader he has been in the locker room and also on the field, how he's staying after/before hours, how studious he is, how he's been throwing some beautiful bee line bombs, and how this is going to be his breakout year.
