Box score: alex 9/15 and it sounded like a repeat of last yr. Then I saw the game on NFL..

Well I didn't bet money on us last nite, and am glad. But did i just expect us to fold up like a cheap tent? No. Our OL continues to be the base root of our team's problems, and in a close 2nd place is our inability to stop 3rd and any length pass. Except against the Raids, we are a lock to allow a team to complete a pass on third and anything. Surely JH can improve that. The OL? Well that might take a bit more doing than we all expect. Essentially this was a loss by the coaching staff, and JH is the leader. this was his loss, and he has a long way to go to justify his ascendency. Man, i hope he makes it, I like him 1000 % better than any of our 3 previous losing coaches, but after tonite's game , Jh has a long way to go. Will we be ready for the season? Nah, i wouldn't bet on it.

Incidentally, Mario et al were no fluke. That is the way they play, and i guess, that is the way we play against guys like them and N.O. Sure hope that improves tho.

After the great outing against Raids, we put up a stinker against Texans. In a nutshell, the OL is in total disarray, and in need of resuscitation. How I would do it:

1. start over, assume every OLineman knows nothing about playing OL.
2. reassess whether solari is as good as he is supposed to be. Have JH sit down, meet with him, ask simple questions re: blocking technique, form, and question him as to what he would do in a given D situation. Then ask him to design a D for a situation.
3. with each and every player, either JH or solari, preferably both, go over their blocking technique, stance, method of blocking a speedster vs a power rusher. 4
4.put each and every OL in a situation against a Defense, and ask how they would block in each of several different situations.
5.Finally, put each and every OL in the realtime situation and see how he actually blocks, does he know his stuff, is his technique wrong,does he understand different formations, and how to block in each one, and then see if that OL can actually what he is supposed to do.

This may not be THE answer, but it certainly is a way to start trying to figure out why the OL looks worse and worse as weeks go by. This one eyesore has to be dealt with, and i believe it needs to be done on a one on one manner, to find out what each OL actually knows. My suspicion: not much. I am guessing many or our younger OL ahve no idea of what they are supposed to do nor how to do it.

Makes sense. You would figure this is something they have done. Our guys can't be that bad. They just can't. Something doesn't make sense.

All good points. There may also be a necessity to make a long term evaluation to also determine whether the talents that these offensive linemen bring are the "right fit" for Bill Walsh's offense. Bill preferred smaller, quick/fast, strong, and highly skilled players with a lower center of gravity for better leverage against taller defensive linemen. It's difficult to see where that prototype exists on this roster. The current corps of linemen's size and natural abilities seem somewhat better suited for a team with a running game centered offense. It is possible that the game has evolved, but conversely, it may also be that these larger linemen are not the ideal players, despite any strides they may make into improving themselves. Since there is a dearth of options at this junction, hopefully these linemen prove to be worthy with more practice and coaching.

The nose tackle quickly collapses our OlL and gets two yards deep but it doesn't matter because the ball is out with 1.5 seconds. No time for a sack.
Aarong Rodgers is brilliant when it comes to this. Pressure isn't an issue when you can get the ball out fast and accurate.

Smith haters want to see more plays like this instead of the fumbles, ints, and overthrows. Yeah the line sucks, but when he gets a chance he needs to strike like this play.

WE DO NOT want to see him roll out to the right and throw it away, check down, int, fumble, or make a poor overthrow, which we are accustomed to seeing.

He needs about 8-10 of these good plays for every bone headed int, fumble, or overthrow.

Instead, he is about 3 of these good plays for every int, fumble, overthrow. That won't cut it.

Alex wishes he had 3 seconds to throw the ball and 2 downs in a row when he is not being slammed to the ground. Nothing like a hi/low smash to the head and knees to give him confidence in his OL.

Alex dreams in 3 second video clips but has to play in 1.5 seconds or less. I can even sneeze in 1.5 seconds.

Go to 6:47 of this video to see the play. Now look at that play clock. The playclock shows the ball is snapped EXACTLY at 7:39. He release the ball at exactly at 7:37. Thats TWO seconds. Not three. Sorry about that. But the ball should get out in 2 seconds which it could have because VD had his man beat. Smith did his job and went through his reads and hit the best option. Good play here.

As for 8-10 TD passes, i didn't say that. I meant good plays. Sorry for that misunderstanding as well. I meant 8-10 good plays like this for every boneheaded play,
