Understand your surprise but Williams is a good player and is certainly playing better than Goldson right now. Williams also appears to have a much better skill set, range, play making ability and goes for the ball more than the body. Plus we already have a more prototypical SS in Whitner so Williams may end up being the perfect compliment to him (although the safety positions in a 3-4 are interchangeable).

Goldson looks like the same player so far this year he has been in the past: very little instinct for the ball - always arrives late, goes for the big hit instead of the wrap.

He has had only one good game since he got here. The very limited interest in him in FA should tell us that he is not worth more than a backup job, if that. He better learn how to play ST.

My predictions in bold on who will be released. Some tough decisions there.

Yeah, Spillman is going to be a core special teams guy, plus the coaching staff is high on him as a safety... he's played well in preseason, too.

I think they're going to have a tough time cutting Ronald Johnson because of John Morton, too. It's certainly not looking good for him, though.

Johnson has played so crappy that we wont have to worry about him getting plucked off our practice squad

Much of the evaluation is done during practice, so Dixon may be showing a better grasp of the offense... my guess would be pass protection.

Edwards is only listed there because he's still learning the playbook, while Ginn and Morgan were at "Camp Alex".

Probably. I'm just saying that I bet Morton puts up a fight to keep him.

It'll also depend on how he's looked in practice.

That said, I don't know who we'd cut in his place.

There will probably be cuts that shock us... there are every year.
call me crazy, but i'm kind of in favor of only carrying 2 QB's. I know our O-line sucks and Kaep isn't ready and Smith is Smith, but long-term, I would rather keep an inactive Philip Adams on the roster than an active Josh McCown. McCown will still be on the street if we need him at some point.
