I agree with Sus as well as Command. I don't see JH worrying about the game 3 weeks from now, he is worrying about this Sun. As for Command, pretty much all bases are covered, but i would add that he spends time personally teaching the OL how to block, move their feet, upper body movement, and later reading blitzes, reacting to blitzes, as well as the fundamentals of pulling OG, etc. Actually if he makes it thru the yr and has 2, or an outrageous 3 satisfactory OL men, I would be thrilled. We are gonna win some games because we aren't the only team rebuilding (yeah, i know 8 yrs is a long rebuild, but it is what it is), eg Dallas and a handful of others. The metric we should use is basically pretty individualized. Some will do it on W/L, some on playoffs or not, some on stopping 3rd and short, some on making a bunch of offensive 3rd and shorts, etc. I am just looking for a guy who can give us a team that is pretty much in all games, and above all, is fun to watch. When you have been out in the wilderness so long, completely lost, putting on a respectable game is not a bad thing to shoot for. Above all , i want to see us get thru the yr and have a functional OL. If we do that one thing, then JH had a great yr. The wins will follow.
I haven't said a thing about D all preseason, but JH will be a success if he can D scheme so that the D can get off the field more than half the time on 3rd and short. Last yrs we have been the poster child for inability to stop 3rd and whatevers. That can be greatly changed by D calls. We still don't have the corners, and once past LBs, we are spooky thin in talent. A great coach can significantly change that with D calls. Sure we will get burned sometimes, but that is a helluva lot better than noln and BMs "bend but don't break" b.s.

Harbaugh will have succeeded on a most important front, if, during the 2011 season, he identifies his starting QB for 2012 and beyond. This club won't begin moving forward, building momentum, until that is accomplished. For a lot of reasons, including the lock-out, 2011 is going to be a stopgap, transitional year for Harbaugh's regime with the club.
Harbaugh also needs to determine which players really want to be here for the turnaround, and move the others, hopefully for some value. For example, I believe that Crabtree has never wanted to play in SF, and that his agent will move him elsewhere (probably Dallas or Houston), as soon as Crabtree is eligible for free agency. If that is true, Harbaugh needs to sniff that out and get something in trade for Crabtree next off-season, before he can become a FA. The same approach would apply to any other player, who simply doesn't want to play in SF and wants to be on a different team.
Harbaugh is an uber-confident guy, but he is going to learn a lot about being an NFL HC this year, and the Niners will be a much better team in the future, once Harbaugh has absorbed that NFL HC experience.

Jim bagg, I mentioned in another thread that craps seems seriously undecided if he wants to practice, put out, be a teamer, (or holdout), or frankly, show that he really wants to play here. When your #1 pick gives you the finger and holds out well into the season, well, that is pretty good evidence that he really doesn't have his heart in it. I completely agree with you that if he can be traded before FA, for equal goods(CB, OL, DL, DB, heck even WR), I would do it in a heartbeat. I just never saw the commitment either to playing or being a teamer that everyone else seems to have. (Ok, Rachal is problem, but i never doubted he cared...i think he does. There is something else going on with him, and it may simply be a complete lack of coaching, which should be remedied this yr..or not). But craps, he just doesn't look like he cares and if he comes back from injury or not, it doesn't seem to bother him. That is not the kind of guy you want on your team. Maybe JH will turn his apparent lack of attitude around this yr, but i wouldn't bet on it. Your idea of trading him pre-emptively strikes me as a really good suggestion. He has lots of value re: talent. Sadly his commitment to the 49ers seems lacking. A really good time would be later in yr when somebody is making a run for the playoffs, and badly needs a really talented WR. Let them have him, but , of course, get our value out of him plus a little extra, from someone who needs him badly. We don't.

I'm expecting Jim to have this team in position to win the division with an 8-8 or 9-7 season.
I know he/we didn't have the offseason and its gonna show early but I really think the players love the new schemes. They can see how it will help each one of them become better and more explosive players. Jim is finally get our playmakers on both sides of the ball in positions to win battles! We have some good talent but they were all held back by high school football playcalling but now its different.
He is gonna make a huge difference just in the O not being so darn predictable!! How many times in the last few years have you sat at home watching the game, knowing exactley what we were gonna do? Other teams found us to be easy prey but thats out the door now my friends. Here comes the WCO and the 49ers!!

He needs to field a watchable offense. I don't think that's too much to ask for with the players we have.

Can't judge a coach fully during his first year. Need to give him a couple to implement the offensive and defensive schemes fully. How we perform the last half of the season will say a lot though.

I will admit, you're growing on me a little bit. Common sense is not so common now-a-days.

Don't expect to much this season. But, the team is being "coached" and you can see it on the field from the past pre-season games...
