August 2nd, 2011: MaioccoCSN Matt Maiocco 49ers recently added John Becker, senior personnel advisor. He has 29 yrs of NFL experience, including with SB champs '99 Rams & '06 Colts. John Becker ---- From January 2011: It looks like the 49ers are still going to add that experienced football executive a lot of us were hoping for during the GM search: LINK Maybe they'll bring in one of the more experienced guys they interviewed, like Ted Sundquist. Doubt they can get Floyd Reese, since he already has that title with the Pats. Right now I feel like the team is doing all the right things. I'm very optimistic. Based on the serious rip jobs against the Niners, and his outright lies, I'd imagine it won't be Lombardi or any of the younger guys who might have been GM. Maybe someone who is semi-retired and won't even be in the building, just available for additional perspective or NFL contacts.

Just thought of Charlie Casserly after reading this. I think he would be perfect for Baalke. But Charlie must be in the building or at least somewhere in the basements.

Casserly actually sounds like a great idea. The only thing that would cause me some hesitation is that fight he got in with Bill Belichik a few years back where Belichik said: "Who's been wrong more than Charley Casserly since he left the Redskins? Wherever he's been, whatever he's done, his percentage is like a meteorologist." Ha.

I look at Houston where he was at last, I think he did OK to me, even considering Carr. But remember all the decision will be Baalke. Casserly may not be good all by himself but might be a good help with Baalke.

One of the things I want to see in this position is a connection to the rules committee or at least a very good knowledge of the rules. Policy and McVey were able to use the rules (to the 9ers benefit) better than almost any other FO. This may be extremely important given the CBA situation...how much dealing can be done behind the scene during a time like this?

Didn't get much else. 1 and 3 are terrible.

Oh, I love grades set in stone after 1 year.

Mays barely played. But, he's a D- because he didn't score 4 defensive TDs. Good grade. Bowman showed speed and had a good game last game, but he's a C because he get juked by Kolb. Anthony Davis played next to by far a worse lineman than himself. But his improvement over the year doesn't institute anything better than an F. And he sure lowered his grade by stifling Clay Matthews because Matthews is a scrub.

Anthony Davis is a scrub. He got abused all year long. We traded up to get that guy and gave up picks. Just shows you how good Baalke is and that he needs oversight...

Harbaugh I think was the best choice for Niners, well executed plan to pull him into the organization.

Experienced Football adviser to help with the GM parts that Baalke have not developed yet. The contacts through the league to operate transactions, trades, contracts.

Haven't seen much discussion, but Maiocco just mentioned that this will likely be an experienced exec. hired by Baalke. Any ideas or hopes? I wouldn't mind seeing Charley Casserly in that role. Also think there's a good chance Baalke might be talking to Parcells, but I don't see that as a good fit, as he's used to having more say than I think Baalke cares to give him. Thought?

Parcells is currently employed by the Dolphins as an "advisor". From what I've read he can leave that job any time he wants.
