They have to move on. 49ers + A. Smith is just bad chemistry at this point. There is an aura of bad vibes with this association now. Let him blossom somewhere else, and let's get someone that this team will really rally around (and not just say it for the press, like when they talk about Smith).
The best place for Alex would be the Colts and learn from Payton. They run the spread and with some more tutaledge he would grow and take over for Payton as he ages. Kind of like Montana to Young after he was healthy from watching Joe after the pounding he got in Tampa.
That's the other thing that annoys me! When the niners air it out they play very well. They should be playing in the spread. The have the players for it. In fact, this roster caters to it. Think about it, Gore/Westbrook are great pass catching backs, crabtree can really make some plays and then you have two great receiving tight ends. It's stupid not to run the spread.
That is the exact reason Singletary must go... He wants his will on the players we have regardless of the playing abilities they have. We could also be a great West Coast Offense with Troy Smith or Shaun Hill as well.
I agree. When I was watching the green bay game and I saw troy throw a short pass intended for crabtree that was like 5yards off the mark and went out of bounds... I knew he was not the answer.
