What's up with Nedney?

I was reading the Mercury News article about Jason Hill being released (available here) , and it said:
Quote:
The 49ers have yet to announce any accompanying moves, but the injuries to tackle Joe Staley and kicker Joe Nedney mean another transaction is likely.

And I was like, wait, what?

What happened to Joe?
He got hurt last game. it only hurts him during kickoffs so we re most likely bringing in a kickoff specialist
Valrod got it all, basically. Only thing to add is that his leg was injured on the opening kick off.

I wonder, do we put a priority on getting a lefty substitute, in case the injury becomes worse?

The dude is getting old and injured every year. It might be time to bring in a new leg this off season.

K Joe Nedney's knee injury isn't long-term, but Niners looking at kickers for practice and for kickoffs SUN against TB's Michael Spurlock
Nedney is gonna be out this week
MaioccoCSN 49ers announce that K Joe Nedney will likely be out this week with a right knee strain and bone bruise. At least 3 kickers are auditioning.

Oooh, I almost figured it was that lump in his groin which was agitated again (that muscle injury he's had since age 17 that never healed, with the pain/swelling that comes and goes).

I love Nedney, but we need to replace him this coming FA (he's become a liability), isn't his contract coming to a close (soon) anyways?

FYI regarding Nedney: Five of 49ers' games have been decided by 3 points or less. The same goes for Tampa Bay. Expect a close one Sunday...

The 49ers signed Andrus for the final game last season, and he kicked four extra points against the St. Louis Rams. He also took part in 49ers training camp this summer. Waters, a first-year player from Alabama-Birmingham, went to camp with the Raiders. He served a dual purpose as punter and kicker behind Shane Lechler and Sebastian Janikowski. Lindholm is a rookie from Tarleton State who went to camp with Indianapolis. In his college career, Lindholm had 87 touchbacks and a career-long field goal of 64 yards.

Waters, Lindholm, and Andrus are all right footed--couldn't figure out who the other two were. While it shouldn't make a difference, you never know on special teams.
