As told by Staley, there was a 10-man personnel miscount in the huddle, and the personnel group from the sideline was shouting at the huddle getting everybody nervous as hell (cause our staff is that f**king disorganized as usual) before the play was even delivered to Troy's helmet from the sideline.
Anyways, Troy Smith stops the entire huddle (as if he was getting ready to give out the next play), and says "Hey guys... I have a really simple solution for all of this", from which that point forward Troy turns around and signals the ref the time-out gesture (making a 'T' with his hands). The whole huddle burst out laughing (their asses off), meanwhile Singletary was having a conniption fit on the sideline, but it calmed the entire huddle down for almost the rest of the game (according to Staley).
Staley was also commenting that Troy had a firm 'vice-like' grasp of the huddle for being a guy who hasn't started a game in practically 2 years, and it seemed like Troy had full control of the huddle, as well as a 'loose' attitude/calm demeanor (with a sense of humor) when going about the nuances of getting everybody ready before lining up.
-Very insightful interview though, and from how it sounds I don't honestly blame Troy Smith for calling a TO in that situation. Seriously, 8 weeks going in and we still haven't fixed these issues, gimme a break.
