Did you not see David Carr play last Sunday? Happy that he is not in there and might as well see what we got in Troy Smith

We have nothing in troy smith. Baltimore didn't even want him as a third stringer. He may be an upgrade over carr, but to say let's see what we have in him is just being too hopeful that he actually has a shot at being our quarterback of the future. He iis what he is, the only healthy quarterback on the roster that gives us the best chance to win. That's all.

He was the starter for ravens then he got sick and flacco started. He refused to be a back up that's why they relesed him

FINALLY - somone knows what happened in Baltimore, geez.....Thanks man for clearing the "he couldn't even be the 3rd string in Baltimore talk"

Watch this kid ball.....

If Troy Smith was the savior in Baltimore, then why did they feel the need to draft Flacco???

Actually he wasn't the starter, he was going to get a chance to win the job. He was scheduled to start the 3rd preseason game and earn the opportunity during Flacco's rookie year based off of the few flashes he showed when pressed into action during his own rookie year the year prior. The Ravens were at the point where they knew Boller wasn't the answer but did not want to press Flacco into action as a rookie. Troy came down with tonsillitis, Flacco started and was impressive. The Ravens and Flacco never looked back.

Baltimore drafted because they did not know whether Smith was the future or not, but passing on a chance to draft a kid they were high on whom was a 1st round talent could have been a mistake for them. The smart move would not be to put all your chips on a 5th round pick as your future after 2 and a half games of game film to go on from his rookie year.

I remember that, which proves my point. This kid is not going to come in here and light it up, especially with this coaching staff and their game plans.

Look for Frankie to get the ball a lot and lets pray that the defense has a big game.

They gave up on Carr too quickly.

He got one one half and Alex got 5.5 years.......

Hopefully, Troy gets the Alex Smith experiment.

God, I can't wait till Aloser is cut.

neither carr or a.smith will be on the team next year. might as well see if t. smith is worth keeping.

It's happened before, it could happen again. I wouldn't bet on him being the long term answer, but I wouldn't dismiss any chance of him being a short term fix.
Most exciting news all season!!! This team is now not only going to make the Playoffs, but we have a solid chance at the Super Bowl!!!!

Baltimore didn't want him because he was making noise on how he wanted to be released so he would have an opportunity to start for another team.

Baltimore was going to have Smith as their starter the year Flacco was drafted, but he got sick right before the season started, so they went with Flacco and the rest is history.

I wouldn't put T.Smith down that much.
I like this move. saw it on mike n mike on espn2. At least he has some mobility to escape our toilet paper line.

Is that you Jed

Hahaha nobody believed me when I predicted this about a month ago. Smith would get injured/benched, Carr wouldn't get more than 3 quarters of a chance to prove failure, and Troy Smith would be the Shaun Hill of the season (ala Smith/Dilfer/Hill 2007).

Now get ready for this thought; Troy Smith beats the Broncos and Alex Smith's injury status prolongs cause Sing cannot decide (and the season is pretty much shot as it is).

PLAYOFFS!!!!!

Yes I said it...Troy Smiths a Baller SoN!!
First African American qb to start for the 49ers?

Either way, Congrats to Troy Smith

I think he will surprise people, with this old qb coach as OC

thats better footwork than any of current qbs
^lol @dobo

Troy Smith looks like a midget

Oh well, i, on the Troy Smith trolley

WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
I guess this is the last of David Carr in the NFL
Anyone is better than Carr. First decent move of the season by Sing. I'm sure Troy will do well since there is no game film which will then "ignite" this QB controversy and the zone will go insane haha.

Anyway go Troy!
this is from scouts inc on Troy Smith

Comment: Smith is a three-year player who has only attempted 10 passes in the past two seasons. He is a short, compact-built player with a strong enough arm to make all the throws. Smith is very tough competitive player and an exceptional athlete. He has enough talent and physical tools to potentially contribute as a return man or at another skill position. As a passer, his lack of ideal height is a major concern and he is best throwing on the roll-out. Smith is an ideal backup signal-caller because of his innate leadership and playmaking abilities but hasn't been able to get on the field to contribute thus far.
