The problem is that Singletary's philosophy is to be a "smashmouth" football team, and yet we are toward the bottom of the league in yards per carry.
Gore averaged less than 3 yards per carry against the Eagles, and you are simply not going to win many, if any, games with that pathetic performance.
The answer: Continue to sit the best OL on the team last year, Heitmann, who was also named team captain in training camp by Singletary, in place of ___________________________. Pure genius!!
P.S. Wasn't Baas supposed to dominate at the LOS and throw his defender fifteen yards off the LOS. We can't run the ball up the middle at all.
Push Rachal to the curb, move Baas to RG, and let's get this thing in order.

Keyword there, rookies. We expected them to have a bumpy year when we plugged them into the starting line-up. Problem is, we drafted two 1st round picks that the coaches expected to be Pro Bowl players from the get go and compared the draft to the 2006 Jets draft. Only problem with that is they had Chad Pennington at QB who is a much better QB than Alex Smith.

Alex actually has room to step forward this year.
We will not be a consistent run team until our passing game threatens the defense or it spreads the defense. If Smith can do what he did last game (the entire game) minus the turnovers, Gore will break loose.
We also need to change it up with Dixon and Westbrook. I just don't see why you wouldn't want to force the defense to play against a variety of looks and abilities.

You said it. If we were to wipe out all the turnovers this year....we'd probably be 4-1. AS is teh easiest to blame for the 0-5 record, second to MS. Fact is its not all his fault. This was a great post.

No one wants to take in the bold.
Alex Smith plus [insert player of the week who wants a turn to f**k up] are the reasons why we are not 4-1.

Alex Smith has nothing to do with the o line struggling, they on the other hand...

dont forget the HC. when MJ took the job i can almost see sing saying "look moving forward i know we have to open things up. however, i want you to give me 1 down, 1st down, every time so we can est my philosophy, this vision. i still wanna be 'F'sical, and i believe we can still accomplish this moving forward. can you do that?"
sing needs to keep his hands off the O. it seems as if he hands off with about everything else. help figure out the mess on D. the same authority he used to tune down MM is going to continue to smother MJ

Amazing how this O-line with high round draft choices and a competent Eric Heitmann always manages to be "the worst" in the league.
To me it's still back to a predictable "run up the middle" offensive philosophy and an overall average QB (with the propensity to make that big mistake at the worst possible time - or inability to make the big play at the most critical time during the game).

6 years, but technically only 3 seasons.

Sorry, but you're not allowed to use facts when assessing Alex Smith.

I agree with everything but this. #18 has had probably the best (and have been together forever) Oline in the history of football.
I would argue that Brady has, i can recount countless times when he would just stand back in the pocket for days seemingly waiting for the crossing route to come open
Manning covers up a lot of problems on his oline, ive seen him pressured constantly and put spot on throws 30 yards downfield between two defenders.
Over the years the Patriots have proved you do not need big time playmakers to have an outstanding offense. You need a great o-line and a good qb and SMART players if you dont have those guys.
We dont need Alex to be Peyton or Tom. There are plenty of teams that win with sh!ttier QBs (KC) And plenty of teams that lose wit better ones (Dallas)

Great post great analysis......the only thing i would add is our wrs dont help muvh becsuse they dont consistently get seperation.. Also our oline is so bad which you already covered most of smiths turnovers were tips on ints. Thats on him but also luck when its a turnover vs an incompletion. His stats arent as bad considering that fact.
