When it comes down to it...forget about all of the mistakes that were made early in the NO and ATL games. We had every right to win those games. When all you need is a defensive stop to get to OT or win the game, your defense BETTER make that stop.

Why is it everytime we need a simple defense stop...we cant do it? The opposing offense just marches right down and scores. WTF!!!!! The ATL game we had them at 3rd and 15. And we give up a 20 yard pass to a TE. What type of defense does that?!??!

2011 draft we need a CB or some type of DB in the first round! No drafting QB's. Go get a proven starter! (We missed McNabb)
They have their flaws, but definitely not the weakness. Clements had a pick to seal the deal, but he fumbled. It's true that the defense has not been clutch this year, but the if the offense could have scored another field goal in the saints and falcons game, we win. Offense and coaching has been the major problem this year.
I disagree. Although the D didn't come up big in the NO and ATL games, they played good if not great the entire game, constantly putting the offense in position to succeed. However when you play great teams like the Saints and Falcons, they're bound to do well if you don't put em away with your offense. In the NO game, it was the turnovers and unfortunate tipped INT at the end, and in the ATL game it was Smith's bonehead mistakes. Sure, the Defense didn't play great when it really mattered most, but the offense definetly didn't help them out, even the D helped them out time after time ( atleast in those two games )

If the offense could actually score points, we wouldn't have to worry about the Defense having to hold on at the end of games.

You honestly aren't trying to blame the ATL game on the D as a whole are you?

I think the defense has the same responsibility to play mistake free ball as the offense does. I think each player is expected to play the same mistake free football as we expect our QB to. Rational and even-handed.
r u lit? the offense needs to stay on the field long enough to keep the defense juiced, some scoring might help.
This is just going to turn into an Alex Smith thread.

The defense deserves a lot of blame for critical mistakes made at the worst possible times, yes. However, other players or coaches that I will not name that may or may not be on or have to do with offense also deserve their fair share of blame.

No im just saying....to win a game you need to overcome obstacles. When an opportunity for you to win the game arrives...you need to make the most of that opportunity. The defense has not been doing that.

Im not saying the offense hasnt been horrible. Im just saying that even thought the offense has been terrible...the defense at the end of games when we have still been in the game and have a chance to win, have not been delivering us victories!
Defense hasn't been great like last year but they sure as hell haven't got any help from the offense when they turn the ball over.

this^

We are a too defense but a bend but don't break which means we allow FGs but stop touchdowns. So, if we are up by 2 points or less and the opposition has the ball, consider it a loss. Too bad our offense is last or second to last in points scored.

It's neither offense or defense. It dumb f**ken turnovers.

I dont believe in that give your defense time to rest crap! With all of the tv timeouts and around 40 seconds in between plays...the defense gets atleast 5 minutes to relax even with a 3 and out.
7 points by the offense = Offense is the weakness
The Niners' weakness is its crybaby fans
According to Sando (with information from ESPN stats) the 49ers defense is ranked 16th in rushing (out of the 32 teams), 20th in pass defense, and 26th in points allowed per game.

They have some work to do.
