Realistically speaking....
Without Alex Smith we can go 5-2 or 6-1 the next 7 games.
With Alex Smith I doubt we go 2-5.
I just hope we can beat the Raiders so I don't have to hear it.
I can't see how we can chalk up any wins on paper.

As a matter of fact I am optimistic about the Niners. First of all we played the two top teams in the NFC (New Orleans and Atlanta) to a standstill and could have won either game. In both games we had interceptions in the hands of the DBs and through various things they were dropped so we did not win the games. But the fact that we played them close to the end provides optimism for me.
I see a team in transition, with all of the talent in the world and a thought, a play away from winning, winning ugly perhaps but winning. The transition is in the OC hands. So Philadelphia will be our first full week under Johnson. He hopefully will have learned a bit about the offense and the needs from first hand perspective. So we should see some improvement. In the Atlanta game we needed 3 points of improvement to win the game on the offensive side.
In the Atlanta game, on the road, we basically contained Ryan and White until the last drive. We got some pass rush out of Harolson, that was some good news. Still no sacks from J. Smith or Lawson, or Willis. But Mays was an immediate improvement on Davis, so that is good news. Hopefully, we may see RJF in place of Sopoaga on pass rushing downs or just outright replacement. But we will see as time goes on. Another issue on the defense, it seemed like our DBs played with more authority in the Atlanta game, that is another good sign to me.
So I saw many good things in the Atlanta game. I always remember that the NFL season is 16 games long. If we turn it around with Philadelphia and win consistently during the middle part of the season we will all say that the first four games were our baptism in fire. I see us still winning the division. But each game we play if we continue to tighten the bolts we can have a successful season.
I still see 10-6.

I expect to see Johnson install a more varied game plan and make better adjustments to what defenses are doing. I am optimistically looking forward to that. If it happens, the 49ers should win against an Eagles team that has looked very mediocre so far. Other than the Seattle game, this may be the most winnable game they have had so far.

I get it optimism in that we are not mathematicallly eliminated you mean ? We have a QB who isn't consistent and still making too many mistakes for a six year veteran. We basically don't have any viable options backing up our starting QB and I want to make sure and thank Singletary for that fact , as he thanked Seattle for beating our @sses. The team gets up just enough to be close against the high profile teams but like the QB are inconsistent , but always find creative ways to lose , and then against lesser teams they should beat they come out flat and get trounced 31-6. Factor in a head coach who is plainly over his head and out coached each and every week , and you want optimism ?
I am fresh out of optimism , but I will try and continue to have a small sliver of hope. I am feeling pretty damn critical of this whole operation. I will continue to root for my team. I realize we still have some needs but this is some crappy football from a team with so this much talent. The Rams can beat Seattle ?????? Optimism you say, just not feeling it I guess.
GO NINERS ------ one quarter of the season has been played and still waiting for the first damn win.OPTIMISM

Play offs, you want to talk about Play offs......
You are the exact poster I talked about who would come on the board and talk about how we are only a few games out of first place. Well the niners need to figure out how to win ONE game.
Play offs, you want to talk Play offs.,
And your point is.......what?..... Im actually invisioning a best case senario for my team and you want to shoot that down?? Umm....hmmm... I thought this was the 49ers message board, sorry no room for seahawks and cardinals fans. You are the type of poster who comes to the board and trashes the team, then hopes they lose so they can come back to the board and tell everybody how right you were.
Good job, pat yourself on the back, your a real fan.

We would just get humiliated in the playoffs anyways...
Satisfied? I dont remember typing the word anywhere in my post, but ok if you say so. All i gotta say is sometimes in life you are dealt a sh**ty hand, Fighters make the best of what they have and scrap for what they can get. Losers say "oh my god, we're doomed" "there is no way we can win" and then they fold up their F**kin tents and go home. Im not saying that you are, but im not a loser, and therefore I will not think like a loser, and I would hope my team feels the same way i do, because if they dont then we've already lost and your right we might as well fold up our tents and go home. I didnt see anybody out there NOT trying to win sunday.

If we go 5-1 in division play then we could make the playoffs, and we've already shown that we can play up to the level of so-called better teams. Perhaps the 0-4 start is a good thing for a team that has been hearing that theyre gonna walk away with the division since the end of last season. This gigantic slice of humble pie could be the wake up call that niner nation needs. i wouldnt reccommend making any major changes at qb or with the coaching staff until we are undoubtedly eliminated. I dont like Alex at qb either but right now he is the most prepared and know the offense better than the other guys, so percievably he is our best choice to win, we could easily be 2-2 if it werent for a few plays. But look at it like this "0-4 49ers rally to win 9 out of their last 12 games to make the playoffs" would be a wonderful headline, and it is an achievable one, lets just see how our guys respond, I feel like the offense is overdue for a breakout game, will i happen next week?
This team has had so much bad luck in these last 4 games that its hard to believe. I hope the loosing streak ends this sunday cuz this team needs a W badly.

It is the pessimists who are losers, who give up, who always figure there is no chance. I like optimists. They will continue to fight and strive to do the unthinkable, and often they do. Add me to the list of optimists.
