This is a dysfunctional organization don't kid yourself. You could just as easily say we have the "WORST OWNERSHIP IN THE LEAGUE" and it's getting worse...

I think you could make a real strong argument for that.

If Smith would come out of the damn chute and play like Ryan, Flacco, Roethlisberger, or so many others, you would be singing the praises of our management team. Alex is a cancer in this organization. He has the NFL QB version of Munchausen Syndrome By Proxy - everyone around him *but him* gets hurt, but he is the one inflicting the harm.

Flacco has looked pretty bad so far this year.

so not the point.

People claiming they want him to play like Flacco have no idea what they are talking about, they come up with these comparisons and don't realize he is playing almost better then Flacco.

Player Att Comp Yds Comp % Yds/Att TD TD % INT INT % Long Sck Sack/Lost Rating
Joe Flacco 108 59 664 54.6 6.1 4 3.7 5 4.6 38 3 19 66.3
Alex Smith 119 72 732 60.5 6.2 2 1.7 5 4.2 41 7 35 66.2

your logic is so flawed I don't even know where to begin.

Please point out where it flawed? People want Flacco but his numbers are almost exact to Smith but Smith has a higher completion %?

Flaw #1. Who says they want Flacco?

Per Shaj

If Smith would come out of the damn chute and play like Ryan, Flacco, Roethlisberger, or so many others, you would be singing the praises of our management team.

Flaw #2. You are not grasping context and the spirit of his message. He was pointing out a set of QB's and named examples.

You can not counter his message with an argument about just one of those guys...you would have to debate with him on each one before you could even begin to have a point.

Flaw #3. You Alex lovers do the same thing every year. You point out the few QB's who happen to have a worst season than Alex for some very short amount of time....and cling on to that argument for dear life.

Example, I wanted Cutler and Sanchez 2 years ago and got all kind of crap. But nobody wants to debate me on those two anymore Of course not, because right now Flacco is not playing well so he is your magic trump card. If Cutler throws a few INT's tonight then you guys will start using him again. If Matt Ryan has a bad November, then he will be your new "See" example.

You guys are so predictable and lame right now. YOU LOST. YOU WERE WRONG. Now you just look pathetic and stubborn.

great post!!!! Agree with you 100%. The Flacco 3 game comparisons are hilarious. How about they compare the rookie years of both Smith and Flacco?

I have tried to figure out how someone could still support Smith, and I could only conclude that the average IQ of those guys must be less than 50. Losers compare themselves to people who are not doing well, to justify their own failures. Winners compare themselves to people who are doing well. Ceadder, you have revealed yourself to be a low IQ loser. Congratulations.

That's it. Come up here and say this garbage to my face. You have made your last personal attack. Reason being is if you cannot come up here and back your crap up then you should shut your pie hole you're obviously trying to get me to start attacking you. Well I won't. The offer stands open and I'm really hoping you take me up on it. I've PM'ed you my town. Google a place here of your choosing and we can speak face to face about my Sex and my IQ.

I won't make personal attacks. I'll let you continue to do so but you will be sorry if you think you can do this type of crap right to my face.

Find one person with an IQ greater than 50 who would take Smith over Flacco, and you will have found the love of your life.

Doesn't answer the question, with Flacco having the same numbers why the love for him?

because he tore it up in his rookie year and made his team a superbowl contender. is that good enough? Smith can't carry Flacco's jockstrap.

Or Baltimore's D and run game did most of the work
Raye did not get fired because his Playcalling was average.

We've ALL stated that Smith has this season and that's it.

You guys say Alexcuses yet you CONSTANTLY bail out the ENTIRE unit and the OCs' by blaming 100% on the QB.

Why should we expect the rest of the team to play better we can just get rid of Smith and that will make them better.

NEWSF'NFLASH!!! THe team STILL played like SHAT when Hill was the Starter.

Game set match I defeated your ignorant stance using your own argument. Oh but then you spin it to be due to Smith being a number 1 pick.

To that I say HORSESHAT! We tried to trade out and couldn't get out of it. It's not like the team can ABSTAIN their pick. They had to pick SOMEONE. Whether Rodgers OR Smith neither would have been good in their first season. In fact Smith was SUPPOSED to ride Pine his first year. Injury prevented that. DUH! Your argument fails yet again.

Oh wait, now we must compare all other picks since Smith and

Guess what ALL OTHER PICKS WERE NOT ON THIS TEAM! They did not play the same opponents, they did not have the same players they did not have different OCs' every year, NOTHING was the same. Regardless of whether you deem it the same or not. It just wasn't.

Get THAT through your F'N thick skulls. You make disparaging comments at mine and anybody else's expense for even daring to follow through on giving Smith till the end of the Season.

What's it hurt if we do? Are you going to cry? Your mothers going to send you to bed with no supper?

What??!!!! Seriously why can't you people just give it a rest.

Oh that's right the sooner everyone agrees with you the sooner you'll have respect for us. Well you know what you can do with your respect.

Spirit of the message good way to prove anything, dumb excuse. If he's going to point out QB's make sure they are worth pointing out, Flacco is not one to be pointed out. I would gladly debate any of the QB's, are some good of course, does that make Smith the worst QB in the league NO.

You Alex haters to the same thing, run your mouths like a 12 year old on an internet forum. God forbid there was some kind of circumstance that put this TEAM and Alex in a position not to win, but that doesn't matter to you, because the 9er management and coaching staff has been top notch the last 10 years.

Our O line played lights out on Sunday, the running game was fantastic, play calling was Walsh like, the D got turnovers galore and stopped KC from scoring.....right this all happened in your fantasy world. Alex lost the whole game by himself and everybody got a gold star?

Hey Smokie, quit with the personal attacks on zoners. Focus on the issues, not the people conveying the issues. I may agree with what you say about Smith, but I don't agree with making it personal with zoners.

So Shaj, if we're going to compare everything on a level field, Baltimore in Flacco's first year had better personnel than Smith in his SHORTER first year. Agreed?

Starting to like the taste of your own shoe leather are you?

Of note, YOU are not stupid. Your opinion IS stupid. JiC you feel the need to whine to the Mods.

~Ceadder

If you want apples to apples comparisons, you should look at Ryan in his first year and Bradford in his first year right now and Stafford now in his second year. All of those are very high draft picks that went to very bad organizations with bad records and in chaos and turmoil.

Stafford is a great comparison, where is he at...on the bench because he got hurt and his team is losing. So this counts as a year for Stafford in your eyes that he sucked even though he's not playing?

I thought you quit being a 9er fan. Go away little boy.

~Ceadder

You are the one who quit being a Niner fan and have become a Smith jock sniffer. What is up with that? Do you actually care about winning? Do you understand that Smith is a big part of the losing equation? Some girls really understand football but you need to find a boyfriend who can teach you a few things.

Wow what a great argument. You took a tact that I have never seen before. When in doubt go for the personal attack.

I would report you but since I know you're one of the offending alias screennames I'll make you look more intelligent by stating you win I give up and let's sh!tcan Smith right now.

Can't wait til I read your Obit. And won't be surprised that CoD was a beatin that got out of hand cause your mouth overrode you your hummingbird ass.

LOL you call someone a little boy then get your panties in a bunch when you get some of your same medicine.

Stafford went to an 0-16 team, possibly the worst in NFL history, and in his 2nd year has a better career passer rating than Smith has either this year or in his career. What do you want to know specifically?

Comparisons to Stafford and Bradford are valid comparisons as both went to teams lacking a lot of talent. The comparisons to Flacco, Ryan, or Roethlisberger are a little ridiculous when considering the personnel around them compared to Smith.

Find one person with an IQ greater than 50 who would take Smith over Flacco, and you will have found the love of your life.

Doesn't answer the question, with Flacco having the same numbers why the love for him?

because he tore it up in his rookie year and made his team a superbowl contender. is that good enough? Smith can't carry Flacco's jockstrap.

See it's with ignorant comments like this being posted day after day that has me longing for an ignore feature.

I didn't want to even give it any rebuttal time, yet you cannot let something this stupid gain momentum in NT. All the other people out to shat on Alex will take their cues from it and lead to the inmates running the asylum.

Stafford went to an 0-16 team, possibly the worst in NFL history, and in his 2nd year has a better career passer rating than Smith has either this year or in his career. What do you want to know specifically?

he played one game and threw for 83 yards, is that a great thing for you? is that what you want from a starter?

~Ceadder

You are awfully sensitive for someone who attacks people all the time. Look, let's make a pact to not read or respond to each other's messages. I didn't mean to get you so riled up-- this is entertainment after all. Let it go, dude, it is not worth it.

Hey Smokie, quit with the personal attacks on zoners. Focus on the issues, not the people conveying the issues. I may agree with what you say about Smith, but I don't agree with making it personal with zoners.

how about YOU MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS or TELL F'n CEADDER TO STOP TALKING SH1T HIMSELF...

if you were defending anyone else, I'd wouldn't respond like that Shaj....but you have to know who you are calling out and who you are defending, first and foremost.

I'm fine with the no personal attack rules here....but I wish they would be implemented fairly to everyone.

sometimes, the defense gives you one on one. Sometimes you gotta take a chance. Smith rarely does. Also depends on the situations. if it's 3rd and 10, you're down by 3 TD's, you don't check it down for a 2 yard gain.

Thank you! This has been one of the biggest problems with Smith's game. He is so risk-averse, that it actually becomes a bigger risk than taking shots down the field, because you're just not moving the ball. I'm sure defenses get giddy when they see all those check downs...

Rod Brooks was confirming today that all during the OTAs and pre-season, Jimmy Raye was drilling it into his head that he had 3 seconds to get rid of the ball. If the first choice wasn't there, check it down but DO NOT take a chance on turning the ball over. Smith has been being a good soldier. Let's hope the new general will put guys in position so that he can take some shots down the field and give his teammates a chance to make some plays.

It was too bad Smith never had a chance to play in the Martz offense. Martz said Smith was ready to take over the week he re-injured his shoulder. It would have been interesting.

But again, somewhere along the line "instincts" have to take over. I have no problem with Alex's "good guy" mentality. He's helluva person off the field, and does everything he is told from a coaching perspective. But comeon.....your team is down by 2 TDs........you have a 2nd and 20 deep inside your own territory, and you opt for a 5 yard dink because "thats what my coach taught me" ?

You dont find anything wrong with that ?
What I find wrong is the same thing I have been saying all season, THE SCHEME IS WRONG AND THE PERSONNEL IS WRONG!!! You can throw the ball down the field if you don't have a receiver even running down the field much less getting open.

The 49er wide receivers are NOT GOOD. Morgan is a starter because he is a very good downfield blocker. Crabtree is starting because he was paid a lot of money, not because he is good. Ziegler is behind Crabtree which tells us how good he is. Ted Ginn was given a cup of stale coffee and a day old donut while he waited by the phone in Miami for a phone call from the 49ers, the only team that was willing to give him a shot.

Instead of Brian Westbrook in the game, a guy who can get open, we have Moran Norris. ETC., ETC....

Those are very encouraging things to consider if you are the QB.

agree with all of that, but how does that fix Smith's propensity to be inaccurate, have poor downfield reads, show little to no leadership, and demonstrate poor mechanics?
Good questions.

First of all, his mechanics are much better this year than in the past. Mike Johnson has done a very good job changing his release point and his footwork. Mechanics are no longer an issue, IMO.

Leadership is a function of KNOWING the scheme is junk and no amount of "leadership" among the team is going to cover that up. I believe Smith is bright enough to know that he would appear a fool in his teammates eyes if he were to try to say, "hang in there. It will all work out." He isn't going to act the fool in order to try to get teammates to buy what Raye was cooking.

I don't know what his reads are but he has been much better going through his progressions this year than in the past. The problem is, Raye coached him to get rid of the ball in 3 seconds. That does not allow a receiver to get open in a lot of cases.

Accuracy is an issue and it is also a function of the confidence the QB has in the receiver to be where he is supposed to go. Also confidence in the OL to engage the DL so they do not get their hands up to knock down passes.

As most will know about me, I am VERY big on the impact that coaches can have on the players. If it is creative, fun, and it keeps the defense on their heels, everybody works harder and wins just happen. OTOH, these last three weeks have shown what happens when things are dull and boring. One of the greatest immeasurables, and something Bill Walsh talked about a lot, was the relationship the coaches had with the players, particularly the QB and his position coach and WRs' coach. Walsh spent a great deal of time developing that entire package, something Singletary appears to have done little at all other than Smith/Johnson, which kind of ran on its own.

If I was an average fan that knew nothing about the Niners, I would assume we're talking about a first year rookie in the 2nd half of the season.

This is a 6th year quarterback, and we're talking about his mechanics.
