I miss the truly good 49er teams that quietly went about proving how good they were on the field each and every week. Of course the players need to believe that they can play against any other top echelon teams but you don't need to make these bold statements in public to fan the flames for your opponent either. We look like fools times two if we toot our own horns publicly and then go out and lose another game 31-6 or anything close to that.
Singletary seems to have been Vernon Davis's role model in making bold claims prior to a very big game. Like I said earlier I miss the QUIET 49ERS of old that made their statements on the field and did it very LOUDLY EACH SUNDAY. That being said I hope we back it all up on Monday. Reality is I am worried about our lack of pass rush as it relates to our DB's.
I MISS WINNING EVERY WEEK.

Best not to go there. Live by the adage: "Speak softly and carry a big stick"
Be humble. Be respectful. Great ones generally are.
It speaks to one's intelligence when one pops off with hollow bluster. Society seems to be gravitating towards a standard that supports and even aggrandizes boastfulness and conceit. In past days, it seems so long ago, humility was the norm; and much more appealing. This trend towards encouraging the opposite is sad.
Hey, I understand when its all done in jest and good cheer. But more and more people are missing that subtlety. The end result is the stupidity on display here.
Davis as a leader? It's a cruel joke. Like Singletary he resides at the wrong end of the intelligence bell curve. Sure he's achieved a measure of success in football, but I seriously doubt that in the broader arena of life his loud mouth will earn him much respect,
Patrick Willis: He epitomizes what the 49ers should be striving for in terms of leadership and performance. He's the opposite of Davis in deportment.

WTF do you expect him to say? Dude is a competitor. Would you rather him say that we suck? If he doesn't think he can win every time he steps on the field then he shouldn't be out there. The guy backs up his talk on the field, and works harder that anyone on the team. This team needs a vocal leader, and Vernon is stepping up. Good for him. Hopefully he gets his boys fired up. Good for Vernon.
You do realize that this kind of BS is restricted to teams with a culture of losing? You don't see NE, the Colts, or Saints talking about how they are going to do this or do that before a game. The Niners of old never did that either. They looked upon those comments directed at them by lesser teams with amusement, then went out and kicked their asses. We have truly become losers, judging by this kind of bluster. If you truly believed, you would not be spouting off. VD is just trying to convince himself of something. Which tells all.

I understand & even appreciate what he's doing. I hope the rest of the team responds & does that damn thing on the field.

There is talent, and then there is stupid talent. Bill Walsh stocked his team with good athletes, but they were often bright guys. Consider Lott, Rice, Craig, Young, Montana, Rathman, B. Jones, and many others. These guys were smart and articulate and have continued to stick around the NFL as commentators, etc. These were the kind of guys that did what they were supposed to during a game. They rarely beat you with their bone-headed mistakes.
And then there are the guys that the York administration drafts. There are a few exceptions, but I see too many undependable screw-ups on the team. If does not look good in the long run.

alot of you duds are fake 9er fans , of course we are better were gonna just lye down in candlestick and lose ! your crazy . when we get back on top you fake 9er fans can get on someone elses ban wagon
we can be fans of a team and say another team is better the saints are a better team than us record and personell wise
just cause we think the saints are better doesn not mean i will be rooting any less for the niners than i usually do
Exactly, I want us to win really badly but that doesn't mean I'm going to think giving a superbowl championship winning team bullet board material is a smart thing to do. Yeah if it's the cardinals and they're talking s**t first then go ahead respond back, but this is like trying to wake a sleeping giant. The Saints have been respectful and they are way more proven than us, plus they beat a good team week 1 while we got the s**t kicked out of us by a crappy team. What the heck happened to Sing's philosophy of "dont tell me, show me" anyway?
This!

I sure agree as well.
But if the Niners shock the world and validate Singletary's statments, all is forgiven.
GPS game. shock the world.

This team is in shambles..... but can't really fault Vernon since he is just copying his coach. We need to stop talking s* to the media and let our play do the talking.

VD should be telling Sing and Raye whats up, not talking s**t through the media.
VD went to Sing last season to complain about the offense. He needs to do the same this year, only much sooner than he did last season.
