The members on this forum that are actually open minded and not blaming everything on Smith have been saying this for a while now, especially after week 1. Singletary's philosophy of run the ball no matter what and play "great" defense. The problem is we can't run the ball and our secondary SUCKS! Eventually Singletary will have to realize that if he wants to win games he needs to put more points on the board than our defense allows the opposing offense to put up. If that means opening it up to a spread offense(which the 49ers excelled in last year) then so be it. If I recall once we went to a spread style offense Gore actually had some decent runs out of the shotgun.

I agree. Someone needs to tell Sing the object of the game is to win, not run the ball. I dont know why our team feels so obligated to get one man the ball. It's not even like they are running a two back set and you have to guess who will get it. If teams key on Gore we are dead in the water. I have yet to see us be successful in the I-formtion on a consistent basis.

That is because Norris sucks! He consistently gets pushed back into Gore. Gore is better off running out of the single back set with a spread formation.
I am inclined to agree that Sing is stuborn; but evidence suggest that it does not apply to pass/run ratio as Smith passed quite a bit last week and produced only six points. He passsed nearly three time more than Gore ran didn't he?

The run game was pretty much taken out of the game when the 49ers fell behind multiple TD's. At that point the defensive line could just pin back their ears and go for the QB(which was pretty easy because the line blocking was horrendous) Gore still ran the ball a lot toward the end of the game when it seemed the team had given up. Also the play calling is what kills it for the offense. They play calling is so damn predictable it isn't even funny. Most of the time I can call the play before the snap.

I haven't spent any time breaking down game film of Norris. Maybe he isn't good, I'm not sure.

As a side note, I'm starting to think this whole week was a big over reaction. I mean, it's clear this coaching stafff has some serious problems, but at the same time a lot "good teams" lost this week. Look at the Chargers getting whooped by KC, but KC barely beats the Browns. And suprise, the Cowboys are 0-2. Yes, the Seahawks suck, but when you talk about division rivals records go out the window.
In a loss like last week's, there's plenty of blame to go around for everybody.

The coaches are going to call the plays that they think is going to give us the best chance of being successful. We have to be able to run the ball good to win games period. This season is showing why you cannot relay on majority passing games. Has there been questionable play calls Yes because the play failed. had that pass to Norris been caught then most would called raye genius. At this point the players have to execute and relying on 2 rookies to protect Alex is going to be a problem for a good portion of the season.

Calling a run play on 99.9% of the time on first down gives us the best chance to be successful? The problem with the play calling is the lack of creativity. It pretty much goes like this.

1st down - Run up the gut with gore
A) Gore gains 2-3 yards
2nd down- Run up the gut with Gore or a lousy attempt at a WR screen
3rd down- Run up the gut with Gore or Norris
4th Down-Punt

B) Gore loses yards or run for no gain.
2nd down-Run up the gut with Gore
3rd down-run up the gut with Gore or Norris.
4th down- Punt

Didn't they have three chances to score TD's in the first half and didn't? Doesn't Smith have the option of calling plays? Wasn't the reason why they fell behind is becasue of turnovers? At some pont, players must accept responsibility AND coaches must accept responsibility for not holding players accountable. There are players who are starting on this team who should not be starting; but that is the coaches' and managements' fault. They HAD the OPPORTNITIES to improve the talent on this team and INTENTIONALLY DID NOT. So, although I will root for the team, I will not feel one bit sorry for this organization if it again faulters.

The first failed TD is all on Smith for a lousy pass to Morgan. Then again after that pass attempt Raye called 2 consecutive runs with Gore up the gut. The second failed TD attempt is ALL ON RAYE! 3 consecutive runs and on 4th down they try a pass to Norris! HELLOOOOOOO PUT GORE AND WESTBROOK IN THE BACKFIELD AT THE SAME TIME!! And my mind is drawing a blank on the scenario for the third failed TD attempt.

This is where I disagree. Morris was in there to make it seem as though it would be a run. You put both Gore and Westbrook in the backfield and it has pass written all on it. However, Morris has demonstrated the ability to catch the ball and was WIDE open; period. There is no excuse for Smith missing that pass. It was a terrible pass and if he can not make that play, he need not be starting for this team. You probably could have completed that pass sitting back in your recliner with a beer in your hand. WIDE OPEN!!!!!! Folks really need to start looking at this for what it is and the fans and soprt writers need to stop babying Smith and Sing for non execution.

I don't think anyone has babied Smith or Singletary for the non execution from week 1. The entire team failed on all aspects of the game. As for the pass to Norris, he turned to a back peddle around the 3 yard line instead of continuing to run, which is what I think Smith was expecting him to do. Either way it was a bad pass, poor play call and horrendous execution of the play. It pretty much symbolizes the entire game.
Doesn't anyone else get it? It doesn't matter how many times Alex threw the ball. I don't care if he threw 100 times in the first half.

It's the type of passes he's throwing. How throws went farther than 15 yds? How many went farther than 20 yds?

Last Sunday we saw the SAME OFFENSE from last season. The coaching staff did NOTHING to change this offense, it's the exact same from early last season.

The Niners need to commit to being a spread style offense, and they need to do it quickly. If they keep with the power running game and short passing offense, this team is headed for 5-11, 7-9 at best.
I thought maybe Raye/Sing learned something last season. Everybody saw how this team responded after changing the offense last season, everybody but them.

What a concept huh? Using an offense that takes advantage of the players you have.
Nah, forget that. We're gonna line up I formation with 2 TEs and run and use short passes to keep the defense off balance.
Then, after we're down by 21 points, we'll start using 3 wide sets and shotgun formations to take advantage of our weapons. Only problem is, the defense will be expecting this and our O-line will never be able to hold up under the constant blitzing/pressure.

Next weeks gameplan, REPEAT LAST WEEKS PLAN.

Our HC and OC are jokes. They think this team should be able to impose it's will on ANY TEAM IN THE LEAGUE.

Message to Singletary, "EVERYBODY KNOWS WHAT YOUR OFFENSE IS GOING TO DO. YOUR OFFENSIVE LINE IS NOT NEARLY GOOD ENOUGH TO RUN ON ANY AND EVERY TEAM.
YOU HAVE THE BEST TE IN THE LEAGUE. YOU HAVE ONE OF THE BEST RBs IN THE LEAGUE THAT CAN CATCH THE BALL OUT OF THE BACKFIELD. YOU HAVE A QB THAT PLAYS MUCH BETTER OUT OF SHOTGUN/SPREAD FORMATIONS. YOU HAVE A VERY GOOD UP AND COMING POSSESSION WR. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, USE THEM!

Lets not forget Walker and Westbrook either. Back-ups that can cause mis matches in the passing game. Use them. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, USE YOUR WEAPONS.
