I like how Frank's s**tty performance is chalked up to the Line playing poorly but Smith is blamed for having a s**tty game despite QB play being just as dependant on the line (and the receivers) as the running game is.

The whole team sucked, but Smith took the mouthful.

The main reason Alex Smith played so poorly is because he was inaccurate. The line has NOTHING to do with his actual throws. That's 100% on the QB. The line has everything to do with opening lanes for a running back to run through, however. You can scramble to find every excuse possible for Alex Smith sucking balls yesterday, but in the end, it was mostly on him. He made the bad decisions and he threw the ball inaccurately. You can't blame ANYONE else for those things.
On top of that, we already know what Frank Gore can do if the line even does a somewhat decent job blocking. He's proven himself already. Alex Smith, however, has never proven anything and everyone's always looking to place the blame on someone else when it comes to his shortcomings.
There were plays where the line gave Alex Smith more than enough time to throw, and what happened? Overthrown. Underthrown. Thrown behind the receiver. Sorry, but Alex Smith and his fanboys can't place all the blame on the line this time.

Never said that AS played a good game OR was accurate with his throws. But the fact remains that most of the day the protection was shoddy at best, when the protection was OK then the throws were off target and when the protection was there AND the throw was on target the receiver either dropped it, tipped it or ran the wrong route. Collective fail.

Some backs in the league have the power or jukes to overcome bad blocking. Frank's not one of them.
What makes him special is what he does after he gets through a hole and hits the second level making cuts at top speed. Can't do his thing if there are no holes for him to run through though.

I agree the whole team failed, but this time, Alex Smith needs to receive much of the blame for his sh*tty performance. The line didn't help much, but when they did, Alex still f*cked up. For once, people need to stop looking for someone else to blame and blame the man responsible: Alex Smith.
As I said, the offensive line didn't make crappy decisions and throw the football like a high school QB playing in his first ever game at his new position. That was Alex. Even when they gave him more than enough time to throw, he failed.
Gore, however, was NEVER given a lane to run through. The line NEVER did their job for him. Whether that's the line's fault or Raye's, or a combination of both, is unknown.
What I'm saying is the line deserves the blame for Gore's performance. They did nothing for him. However, Alex Smith proved sh*tty even when they did their job for him, so I refuse to remove the blame from him and place it all on the offensive line.

I think you're talking about preseason, not training camps. The whole team participates in training camp.

Smith did not play well but I think the biggest dissapointment was the play of our OL and DL, especially since the current consensus is that Seattle does not have much talent on their lines. Our OL could not open many holes and they struggled in pass protection against a 4 man rush. The Niners DL did not create much pressure against Seattle's banged up OL. It was a fail on both sides.

One thing Frank seemed VERY slow at was running outside (and we didn't even use AD). The defense not only knew WHAT was coming but WHERE it was going to go. DE's pressed up field for sacks and QB hits/pressures while the DT's stood their ground and their LB's cleaned up the inside holes easily. In short, we made ourselves VERY one dimensional and predictable!
