but if he said Smith was on the verge of a breakout season with a solid chance of being elite, everyone would be swinging from his nuts and singing praise to his NFL expertise. I know how it goes.

Excuse me. Didn't Saint Nate Davis nearly get Nate Byham decapitated in a preseason game this year? Yes, this is Smith's 6th year. But in terms of game snaps he hasn't had that many; 2006 and 10 games last year. You can hardly hold the 2005 expansion team against him, or those wonderful Hostler game plans and the games Nolan made him play with a seperated shoulder in '07. Screw John Clayton - he works for the Eastern Sports Programming Network, all he cares about is the Jets (and Brett Favre, of course). Play the games and see how Smith does. John Clayton can put it where the moon don't shine.

Matt Ryan didn't do that great last season. Brett Favre tended to have off and on seasons. It'll be interesting to see whether McNabb can fully grasp Shanahan' modified WCO (he struggled before getting injured during the preseason.) McNabb has been a great instinctive QB, but he has never run Reid's WCO to perfection despite all the years playing in that system. I think if Smith put up good numbers, he has a chance.

Maybe that oversight is not oversight at all. If Rodgers plays in the SB like some people expect the Packers to represent the NFC, he will not play in the Pro Bowl.

Actually come to think of it, I'd rather have Smith playing the SB instead of the PB.

So Smith is innaccurate, and you guys act like it's the end of the world. I would like to see him make some good throws under intense pressure. He did not face a lot of pressure through the whole preseason, so it will be interesting to see if he plays well in SEA or against NO...

eh who cares, it's nothing we don't know already....check back again at the end of the season and see if things changed

Considering that it is his opinion, which it is, I stand by what I said. John is in the place he is in because of who he knows, not because he knows everything. Comparing a certified genius talking physics to Clayton talking football is laughable. Personally I do not compare Smith to anyone that has played, I am happy to let him be Alex Smith and see where that gets us. You act is tired man, you hover at the fringe of reason, and actually made decent points from time to time, then you go off on a tangent like this.

Anyone with eyes can see that Alex Smith is a very inaccurate QB.

Many of Smith's inaccurate throws were made while he was about to be clobbered. Pressure will throw all QBs off. Remember how the great Kurt Warner struggled last year when our defense was pressuring him? Come on guys, you have to look at the entire picture to understand why things happen.
