Let's face it - Nate Davis is taking too long to learn the playbook. What if we were to get a new offensive coordinator next year? Must we wait 2 years for him to learn that playbook too?
As for having only 2 QBs on the roster, some teams have done it in the past, so it isn't a crazy idea to suggest it. Most likely Davis would be on the practice squad when we needed him.
For those that think another team would snatch him up - which team do you think would sacrifice a roster spot for a player that will provide no help for them at all in 2010? Or do you really think he will be able to pick up another team's playbook fast enough to contribute in 2010?
You Alex Smith fanatics are something else!
It hasn't taken him 5 years to learn the playbook, just that much time to get healthy and establish himself as the starter. Nate is a knucklehead who doesn't like to do the studying be it because of his disability or laziness. He's got no one to blame but himself.

You are all probably over valuing him. I think two quarterbacks would be fine. Someone else can play db on the scout team. But I would be surprised if he is cut. Boone and Briggs are two guys I'm more worried about losing than Davis

Finally, someone that makes sense.

This is assuming he is still eligible (I don't know what the rules are). After a full season of work, he still doesn't know the entire playbook. Singletary publicly gave a poor assessment of his play. I don't think any other team would put him on their 53 man roster, knowing that he won't be able to play for them at all in 2010.
By doing so, it will allow the 49ers to keep another player around that is more likely to contribute to the 2010 season like Curtis Taylor.
Wow - I do hope you are kidding.
I wish the webzone had a practice squad to put you on....
Yeah I guess you quickly have forgotten singletary's motivational methods. Do Do Do Marijuana effects the memory... Does the Vernon Davis situation ring a bell or are you deaf??

Who listens to the voice of reason here?

You nor anyone else knows for certain which team want or doesn't want Nate. All we do know is that if you listen to writers who like to use scouts form other teams, and private sources have said that they think nate can play. As for him picking up the playbook, maybe it is our coaches who are inadequate? Nobody would mistake our QB coach or Raye as a QB guru.
BTW-if we get another OC next year, that means singletary was fired.
