He had a pretty dramatic dropoff once Crabtree came in last year. I am guessing he will remain on the back burner, since based on his average yardage per game once Crabtree came in dropped significantly.
To answer the question, Household name? not likely...
JR-JT
MC-JM
Well, that would be extremely optimistic! JT had much better YAC than Morgan appears capable...
Actually, based on what I saw from him last year, (so far) Michael Crabtree reminds me more of John Taylor.

Josh Morgan... A household name by year's end?

good blocker but that's like saying a DB has great hands but sucks at covering. A WR needs to be a good WR first.
He is a good WR
Yeah, it's not like he's a bad WR. He is just really good at blocking so that overshadows his receiving abilities. He is athletic and can make some pretty good catches but can also miss some easy ones. His hands are better than Ginns, but not on Ziggy's level, but there is no comparison to either of those two when it comes to blocking. With Ziggy looking more solid by the day, and Ginn being Ginn (fast but inconsistent), we have the makings of a good spread attack if we need one. Also throw in a quick Willliams on a situational basis and we are no longer a team where 'if we fall behind, we lose the game cause we dont have an offense that can score quickly'.
Not saying we will really do the spread consistently, but it's nice to see it as a viable option.

In order for him to become a household name, he'll have to show up on the stat sheet.

Josh needs to be catching more passes each game to be a good WR. While I like that he can block, he needs to be a good WR first.

Seriously though he will perform better once the regular season rolls around and defenses have to key on Crabtree, VD and Gore.
Morgan is a solid WR that will always be our 3rd option in the passing game, we dont need him to be spectacular just catch the ball when it does come his way
its like we have the same brain!
also, Morgan is a good downfield blocker.
Just the one between the two of you?

I would laugh but Hessian controls that part of the brain

Exactly, did we draft him to catch ball and make plays or to block? I hope Ziggy becomes the #2 WR this season. He has the best hands on the team. And no, I don't think that is an exaggeration.

id be down with Ziggy at #2. first and foremost a WR should be able to get open and catch the ball. then he can block. ziggy isnt as good at blocking as morgan but hes not completely useless either.

To tell you the truth, I'd like to see Crabs, Ziggy, and Morgan at 1-2-3. I don't care how fast Ginn is, his inconsistancy at catching the ball is getting old. I sure hope Smith is able to throw to Morgan more in the remaining preseason, so we can see if he's slipped at all. I like Morgan, but I'm really liking what we're seeing from Ziggy (only preseason). In answer to your question---don't see it at all, but there'e always hope! Go Niners-----the West is ours!!!

I think nates passes were just too hot for Ginn. You could tell they were arriving quite a bit faster than alex's passes...haha...
I think Ginn will be fine, of course I say that with positive expectation. I dont know what's up w/ Morgan. he was all supposed to be a breakout reciever last year, and he had all this huge potential, but we haven't seen anything of him from pre-season.....what the crap is he doin?

Morgan has been sort of quiet lately, but he had that TD in team period, and Raye suggested he would play an even bigger role in the offense this season. "I think Josh has made tremendous strides in terms of route-running as a receiver," Raye noted.

So much attention was devoted to TE Vernon Davis and WR Michael Crabtree as they both broke through last season. Morgan could be next. He is coming off another strong offseason of work, and with opponents devoted to stopping the more prominent targets, Morgan could make some big plays as well. He has the ability to stretch defenses and excel in yards per catch.

Don't get worried. He'll get going. Wait til everyone is back. The 9ers have more weapons now than a Mexican drug cartel.

So he's going to be a spokesperson for Johnson and Johnson?
Is that how he's going to become a household name, because I don't see it otherwise. You've got Gore, VD, Crabtree, Walker and now you've added Westbrook. Someones got to do the downfield blocking and I think that's Morgan.
