This is really sad, I think I recall McCloughan's bio mentioning that he had 3 little kids! -Those children will be scarred for life.

Welcome to the modern "family." The U.S. has over a 50% divorce rate and it is the kids that pay the harshest price.

The divorce rate is around 70% in CA. Among the highest in the nation.
did anyone email the Matt's with this info about this divorce possibly being Scotty's? (the 49ers GM)

I just did
sad to see him go, i always thought he was under-appreciated.
To all the posters saying good riddance to McC before this tidbit came to light, SHAME ON YOU!!!!!

If you haven't been through a divorce and know nothing about the subject, y'all should just keep your mouth shut!

I think there might be more then "personal issues" with Scotty. It sounds like him and the 49ers had a falling out and they are kind of covering it up. 49ers, as of late, have been doing stupid s**t like this for years. Look at the Nolan firing and how that went down. And they whole Forester incident. Martz hiring/firing was a joke. We also got hit with tampering. WTF.

Hopefully this will give Sing an opportunity to draft players and we can see what he is made of. Hopefully he gets some Lineman for his power running scheme.

All is not well in 49erland. Our ownership is a mess. We might be a team like the Lions and Bengals. One that shows promise but just can't get it together.....

More than a divorce?!?!?!?!?!?!

Yeah. Divorces get complicated but this is America. Should 50% of Americans be taking a leave of absence?

You do realize these are people and there is s**t going on behind the scenes. I'm thinking him and ol Jeddy boy didn't get along. Scotty probably didn't like working for someone much younger and way more inexperienced then him.

Nor can I understand the people who say that McCloughan should be continuing to work at this time of his life.

exactly, damn females

It was filed on Feb 2. If that is in fact their filing, that was 6 weeks ago. Which means they knew this was coming far before that. People don't wake up one day and say....lets get a divorce. The fire was fanning probably for a year.

I think there is something else to it.

exactly!

I didn't like him and glads he's gone. If anything I think this helps more than it hurts. We likely won't take any project type guys and take more familiar guys in the draft.

I will go on record and say this will be one of the best drafts we'll have had in some 20+ years.

I'm sorry. I am all for having compassion when someone is struggling, and letting them do what they need to do in order to work through the harder challenges in life, but he is the General Manager of an NFL franchise. He needs to be more functional and competent than the insurance agent or the software programmer. Needing to bail on his NFL franchise 5 weeks before the draft for personal reasons relating to a divorce is a sign that he is not up to the task of being a GM in the National Football League.

Read Walsh's history. Homeboy was having nervous breakdowns due to Eddie riding him and his wife threatening to leave, and he rode it out. Tony Dungee's son killed himself and he was coaching again within a month or so (a dubious decision IMHO). Did you ever hear of Polian or Ron Wolf doing something like this? My point is that at this level you should be extremely high functioning and committed and if you are not, maybe it's time to play western scout again. Sorry Scott, but if this is about divorce or your personal demons, then I truly wish you the best, but I also feel like you've really let the team down.

McCloughan won't be back. You don't bounce a guy pre draft and cite "personnel issues," and expect things to return to normal after the draft. McCloughan is gone, and who cares about the reason that everyone will grasp for in the coming weeks? The fact is that player evaluation is the life blood of any organization, and "how" you construct a team is even more important. You simply don't draft skill position players and neglect the trenches the way the Niners have over the last five years. I'm sure McCloughan is comfortable with his contributions, and nobody wants to kick a man when he's down, but he's gone. Al Everest was also relieved for "personal issues," but Pittsburgh didn't seem to think those "personal issues," were enough to keep him from doing his job. Personal issues just means there was a difference of opinion, and now it's on to finding someone who truly knows how to build a team, and how to evaluate the positions that matter the most. Hopefully, the man is one with vision, youth and energy who can stand up to Singletary.
The GM is the navigator of the vehicle, looking hours and miles down the road, while the coach is the driver, concentrating on the immediate. You can't have a coach who is the GM because he'll mortgage the future every chance he gets. He must win now. The new GM needs to be able to trump Singletary, and have more power than Singletary. I doubt, however, that Jed York will have the insight and backbone to create a powerful GM.

I don't know nothing about going through a divorce. Nor do I care about McClueless's divorce. I'm just glad he is not our GM anymore.

I also think it shows how soft he is if can't continue to work during this.

Strong men are leaders and clearly McClueless is not a leader.

I agree with you kidash. No matter how you felt about his performance as a GM it wasn't for a lack of trying. And that is likely the very reason he's getting a divorce. So in essence, he sacraficed his personal life for the niners. Divorce sucks, especially with kids involved. Good luck to you Scotty.
