Regardless, I don't even give a s**t about why Scot left/was fired/whatever anymore. He did some good things with us, some stupid things, and some things which are still TBD. Time to move on.

We will be doing it with a roster largely compiled by MIKE NOLAN. Nolan had the final say in everything until 08, and we haven't drafted anyone truly worth mentioning in the 2 drafts that McCloughan has had the final say in except Crabtree, who doesn't even count because he fell right into our laps and was clearly the best option.

McCloughan can be credited for "lobbying" for Willis, but Nolan ultimately made the call. Same goes for Gore, VD and every big-named free agent we brought in while Nolan had complete control of the franchise.

Nolan was an awful coach, but a pretty decent talent evaluator. NOLAN brought us up to mediocrity talent-wise, but kept us in the lower portion of the league with his coaching. Scotty just "advised" Nolan and did NOTHING when he took over as GM and got authority to make the final call.

I said: a roster largely compiled by Nolan and McCloughan.

I acknowledge Nolan's role, but I think its pretty obvious that they worked together to build this roster. And the point is that those two guys are pretty reviled around here right now and it doesn't make much sense to me.

Scot has always been an edgy/nervous guy, I think his problems with booze hardened the moment he became GM, the added pressure/extended requirements of the position put a toll on Scot and his family it sounds like.

If this is true then Jed had a good reason to act on this the moment he found out, regardless of how close were are to the draft. -Cause there's a good chance Jack Daniels told Scot to draft Kentwan Balmer!

I don't know where you were when we picked Balmer, but I was at the Niner Draft Party in Santa Clara with a couple thousand other fans. The Balmer pick, while not what most wanted, was more warranted than the Chilo Rachal over Desean Jackson pick. Joe Staley and Adam Snyder were standing right next to me when we picked Rachal and both of them, along with 95% of the crowd let out a big "what the f*ck?" Staley glanced over to me and my girlfriend right before the pick was read and he gave a name of a guy he thought we would pick (it wasn't Jackson, though I can't remember who he said), and right after the pick he got a look on his face similar to this --> and walked off. The whole crowd had been chanting Jackson's name and once Chilo's name was read, everyone was pissed.

So say you're the GM, you would take a speed player over a need player?

I may not be happy with every little decision that Nolan an McCloughan have made on draft day, but you cannot ignore the most basic ideal just cause a speed player gave you a stiffie.

PROTECT YOUR F'N QB!!!

If you can't do that then you can have 100 speed palyers on your team and still not make the Playoffs.

Proving once again why some people would NEVER make a good GM.

Yes I know you acknowledged Nolan's role, my point is Nolan was more responsible than McCloughan and Scotty's 2 drafts in which he had the final say prove it.

If I were a GM, I would definitely take a GOOD player over a nobody who turned out to be less-than-mediocre. I know the old saying, "you never know," but in this instance I, along with most others, did indeed KNOW. Everyone knew, except your boy Scott McCloughan, apparently.

When a special player is on the board, you take him. That is, unless you're an incompetent GM.

LOL @ your last sentence. Yeah, taking a nobody who is contributing to a problem area of your team instead of HELPING it over a pro bowl-caliber receiver AND return man is the reason a lot of us would never be a good GM. That makes a lot of sense, doesn't it? Sure.

You seem to have forgotten that receiver was one of our problem areas that year as well. People like yourself, the type that would continue to support a QB that has proven incapable of being GOOD because you refuse to acknowledge your mistake and look elsewhere, are the type of people that would NEVER make a good GM.

BTW, did you think your use of internet images would help your argument?

And another thing, if I were GM, I would have addressed the OL via free agency and trade. There are studs in the draft, but in all likelihood we will not be in position to select them. We reached for Staley and he turned out to be decent. We bombed on Baas, Snyder and Rachal. It's obvious our team cannot draft O-Linemen. What's the solution? Go out and get one that has already proven capable of playing at a high level. And yes, I know it will cost more that way, but what the hell is the point of having $30 million in cap room every damn year if your team remains mediocre and is need of improvement every year?

Just narrowing it down to Balmer and Crabtree...BPA is in the eye of the beholder. Guess I'm more interested in instant-impact players (like Crabtree) vs. projects (like Balmer, or...for that matter, Alex). Maybe you need both?

Still, McCloughan put some pretty good players on this roster during his tenure. Now I just hope he can get his life back on track and reconcile with his family. Time for all of us to move on.

It'll definitely be interesting to see how Baalke moves forward with this draft. How will he prioritize OL, DB, and kick returner(s) needs? We'll find out in a month.

my salvation is jed york, i was one of the rare few who wasnt offended by his insistance to not delve into the dirty kawakami type details of the issue. but only time will tell if he can get us back to respectability, he has plenty to fight against to get there.

We have no other choice as fans than to hope and pray that Jed York is indeed the man to return us to greatness. It appears he's in it for the long haul.
