The fact that he even showed up is great. This isn't a mandatory workout. A lot of vets usually skip out on these

He's taking McCloughans spot. He'll be the first ever wideout/GM in NFL history.

So now two Probowlers = a 2nd year player that missed all of training camp and half the season as a rookie? If there is one guy that should be there for every day of any sort of organized team activity, it's Crabtree.
That being said I don't give a s**t that he missed the first two days.
I agree with you, but i DO give a s**t. I don't like the guy, no matter how good he is. Didn't like his holdout, don't like the way he dresses, didn't like the way he was in denial re his drops last year and don't like the fact he missed a couple of days. F@ck his vacation! He should have planned it for another time. Unless his leg falls off or he has a case on incapacitating hemorrhoids, he needs to be there for EVERYTHING and needs to stay after to establish a rapport with his QB(s). Screw him and the attitude he rode in on.
I didn't like the holdout, but that was mostly due to the fact that he trusted the people around him and followed their advice.
But we're talking about a man, who with 2 weeks of practice, was able to become a productive NFL wide receiver. And we're talking about March, and we're talking about PILATES.
Michael Crabtree will be much better off as a result of two extra days of vacation then he would have been if he attended 2 days of PILATES in MARCH. What kind of "rapport" is he supposed to establish with his quarterbacks doing PILATES!?

Darknight, you put your fingers squarely in the eyes of the problem. The difference is if we took Oher, we then make the QB, RB, WRs, TEs and other nearby O linemen better. Also you keep the QB out of the hospital. Protecting the qb and blocking for the RBs, is a helluva lot more important than a hotshot WR. Make no mistake. I loved crabs in college. But for this team, with no OL other than staley(who was hurt and had a bad yr), Oher was the proper choice for this team. Picking up a guy who had fallen way below #1 or #2 in the draft at # 10 was a terrific pickup. Point is, we could have done immensely better with an all pro OT who we would have had 10-12 yrs. Also we would have had Oher for a yr, not half a season. Oher for a full yr vs crabs for half a season? That isn't a choice, that's a slam dunk, and scot gets full credit for the sexy, yet wrong decision.
On the books it looked like the steal of the draft. For this team, scotykins screwed us. I appreciate the fact this is an overwhelming minority opinion. It doesn't make it any less true , however. Reminds me of the golfing adage: drive for show(crabs), put for dough(oher). It shoulda been, it coulda been, a whole lot better for us.
Adios scot, thank you for giving us another chance to get the GM thing right. As for crabs, he is going to have to be the next jerry rice to make me reconsider. Meanwhile i just look longingly at Oher, and hope we get it right the next time.

Just make sure someone has a box of snickers just in case he starts acting like a "DIVA" cuz we don't want our WR to be playing like Betty white.

"Pilates"! That's hilarious! You know, i just think he needs to be at everything and doing everything to get better. If it means bonding at Pilates, so be it. He's obviously gifted. That's not the question. I guess my distaste for the guy taints everything I hear about him. He just better be the best thing since T.O. or I'll be even more PO'd!

Considering the guy was in top skill on his own while sitting out being a rookie/missing games/comiging right in and performing...
...I'm sure he's just fine. It's not like Raye's offense is that difficult to keep up with.

4th OT in the draft @ #10 is never a good pick. It's not like Oher went a pick or two, or even 12 spots, after we picked. The general consensus around NFL GM's is that he was not a top 10, or even 20, draft pick. Or he would have been picked there. The 49ers obviously didn't think Oher thought (knew) Crabtree was a better pick at #10 than Oher was. And it's not like they knew they would not get another tackle in the draft when they made the pick.
I felt cautiously optimistic going into the season with Smith starting at RT and Snyder backing him up as he played pretty well there in 2008. If Smith would have been healthy, Oher probably wouldn't have even played last year (until Staley went down which no one could have predicted and wasn't even an issue as Sims played so well).
It would be very nice to have Michael Oher right now, but at the time it was AND STILL IS the right pick with Crabtree.

Relax. You are being way too emotional about this.

He should have a long chat with Jerry. Per Steve Young, after we won the superbowl in 95, Young went back to Santa Clara to collect a couple things. Saw one guy working out and running routes. Care to guess who?
