I like this option:
Rashawn Jackson, FB, Senior, Virginia, 6'1", 245 lbs.
96 carries, 461 yards, 4.8 yards per carry, two touchdowns, 25 receptions, 222 yards, 8.9 yards per reception
Far too often last season fullback Moran Norris was a lead anchor, dragging down the 49ers offense.
Whenever he was in the game opponents knew a run to Gore was in the offing, as Norris is too one-dimensional and plodding to be much of a factor in the pass game.
Drafting Jackson in the middle rounds would do for the 49ers what the acquisition of free agent Leonard Weaver did for the Eagles, because like Weaver, Jackson is a triple threat who can run, catch, and block.
Jackson would be a valuable outlet receiver for Smith, a young battering ram for Gore, and he could even be lined up as a half back to pick up tough yards on 3rd-and-short to save Gore the pounding.

Is It Time for the 49ers to Replace FB Moran Norris?

Let him go and have MRob and Miller (and occasionally Walker) be the FB's. They don't often use the FB in the O they run anyways and MRob can do just as good of a job, if not better, than Norris did in 09'.

I like Mo, but he cant run or catch too well, and a bit slow in getting to the second leval on lead blocks and picking up a blitz on the rare occasion Niners passed when he was in, which also was a problem cause defenses
knew a run was comin if he was in there
I think Caulcrick has a good chance to win that FB spot with Robinson as backup
Raye seems to prefer two TE's, over two backs anyway so whoever wins the FB job may not see much PT, and will have to be a good special teamer

I'd say yes...either Brit Miller or Caulcrick should seize the opportunity and take over at FB. Norris simply isn't the player he was a few seasons ago when he helped Gore set the team rushing record.

Delanie Walker could do the job and quite honestly would be the better way to go.
He can line up in Two TE set then on motion can either move back to block to give the QB time or he can move back to block for Frank or he can move back to take the exchange or catch passes out of the End Zone.
There are ALOT of ways to go with Walker. Not so much for Norris. And hell even Duke can get in on that.
Just imagine the opposing DCoordinator having to game plan THAT.

I don't think Delanie is considered a devestating blocker. Maybe next year they can put a 40s number on that kid from Pitt they picked in the 6th round, although I think he is considered an in-line blocker. In any case Moran only has a year at most left. It's up to Miller to beat him out in camp.

• It's striking how big the 49ers' running backs are. The smallest player is Frank Gore, who looks like he's about 215 or so pounds at this point. The biggest of the bunch is Jehuu Caulcrick, who is listed at 250 pounds. I'm looking forward to seeing him in a full-contact practice.

the FB battle is one thing I'm looking forward to in training camp
It might be time to get younger at the position. Caulcrick has highlights of him making running plays. Miller had some nice catches in preseason, but can they block?
