Contracts it would take to Re-sign our Stars: Whoaa!!!

This is a projection of the amount we'd have to pay to re-sign our STAR and soon upcoming free agents: (this is why Scott McC. is hesitant to spend money$$ in this years free agent class.

To Re-Sign:

PATRICK WILLIS: at least 6yrs 52 Million with 20 Million Guaranteed. (Comparable to James Harrison)

Vernon Davis: at least 6yrs 36 Million with 16-20 Million Guaranteed. (Comparable to Dallas Clark)

Dashon Goldson(if he continues to impress): 6yrs 26-30 Million with 10-15 Mill Guaranteed.(Comparable and just a little under to what Drew Rosenhaus is going to ask for, like the Packers safety Nick Collins.)

Manny Lawson: 5yrs 20 Million with 8-10 Million guaranteed (Comparable to our very own Parys Haralson.)

David Baas: 6yrs 30 Mill with 12-14 Mill Guaranteed( Similar to the Justin Smiley Contract.)

Alex Smith(if he does well in 2010 and we commit to him for the future) : 6yr 50-60 Mill with 18 mill guaranteed(similar to the David Garrard contract.)

Aubrayo Franklin(if we extend him): 3yr 27 Mill with 16 mill guranteed (Similar to the Casey Hampton contract.)

So in conclusion: This is why Scott McC. is so hesitant to spend money in this F/A and build through the draft. It gets very expensive if we sign other players and attempt to keep our own. That is a combined: 200+ mill spent to all those players and thats just what it would take to keep our free agent classes of 2010,2011. So maybe dreaming for Julius Peppers, Daunta Robinson, Karlos Dansby, Logan Mankins is a bit out of reality.

Looks like we should dump Alex Smith and bank our future on Nate Davis. Seems like the economically feasible thing to do.

VD will have to do it a couple more seasons before he gets Dallas Clark money. Clark has been a great TE for several years. half the guys you listed havent put in the years of results to earn that money.

Alex Smith just took a HUGE paycut. he got his payday, and hes going to have to be our franchise proven QB for 2 or 3 years to get that kind of money again. we will probably keep re-upping with him for 1 or 2 year deals until were satisfied that hes our guy.

Dashon Goldson is overrated. if hes going to ask for that kind of money, he can take his poor coverage elsewhere.

no way we give David Baas a big contract. hes a bust. he'll be lucky to keep his starting job heading into next season.

and Aubrayo Franklin is old. he had a big season in a contract year, and he got his franchise tag. we will either continue to franchise him or let him walk in the future. hes heading out of his prime. hes too late for a long term deal.

id give Lawson that money, id give Willis that money for sure, id probably give VD that money if he does it again next year and greatly reduces his penalties and drops. id give Alex Smith a long term deal if he looks good this year, but not for that much. Garrard was definitely overpaid.

That really isn't that much money if the contracts are structured right. There is no way we re-sign Baas. Take into account that VD already makes pretty close to that, not to mention the cap goes up every single year. We totally have the firepower, even after resigning all these players, to go after top tier free agents. All the free agents you mentioned are way overpriced except Mankins. The 49ers would try to snatch him up in a heartbeat.

Great Post!! Someone else sees the future besides me!! I have already told myself to act like the NFL has no FA period because we are not getting anyone.

Willis is the only one who deserves anywhere close to that money .. Vernon and Franklin(Hamptons contract is 3 years 21 mil btw) have to do it for more than 1 year .. if Goldson Lawson Smith and Baas ask for that money then they could all go find it elsewhere cause none of them are worth it.

David Baas will not get anything close to that kind of money...

Baas won't be resigned for that money. I bet Willis and Davis are the only people out of that list we keep. Franklin is good and deserves a contract but Manny, Baas and Goldson dot warrant big money yet. Lawson is basically a semi bust. Baas is a dissappointment. Goldson looked good but you don't get paid for doing ok as a starter.

Scotty let Smiley walk when he was playing at a PB level and wanted to stay in SF cause he doesn't believe Guards are worth the money needed to keep a PB type of player. NO WAY IN HELL will we be signing a PB FA Guard from another team unless Scotty boy has learned how incredibly wrong his value of the G position was, which I doubt. He seems to be quite stubborn (Alex Smith, Pashos, Roman) when he's made that kind of decision.
