How about 24 KARAT plated helmets for home games. I love the current unis but I think it would look awesome with shiny 24k gold with current 49ers helmet logo .

They're also too smart for that.
Gold plating on a football helmet would be pretty f**king stupid.
Consider how hard players hit and how soft gold is... it would be like wrapping the helmets in tinfoil and expecting it to stay on. There would be more gold in the turf than on the helmets after the first quarter.
Now, if you really wanted to make some similar silliness happen and actually work, you'd just have to add gold dust to whatever mixture they already use for color, just like any other pigment. It would still get jacked up, though. Remember Aker's helmet from week 17 after he threw it on the sidelines?
I'm not sure about the construction of helmets, but I assume the color is a part of the mixture for the dome shell. I know the team logo is a decal. Anyway, it would be super expensive and even if it looked pretty (to anyone, lulz) it would be ruined no matter how rugged you made it.
