Why can't Lee kick FG's

It can be done, but I think most teams are scared to only have one kicker for both because of the injury factor. I grew up playing soccer but kicked and punted in high school, even cooler I can kick and punt equally well with either leg which came in handy on punts occasionally. Little longer on kicks with the left but maybe a little more accurate with the right.

Why doesn't Michael Crabtree play tight end, tight ends and receivers both catch.
Then why does vd play tight end and not left tackle!

I think it has something to do with putting in backups and then the starters arent allowed back in the game. Thats why they have punters holding. Its a rule teams bend....its supposed to be 53 players plus a long snapper and holder. So they get an extra available player if the punter holds. Not sure of the specifics.

That's not the same at all
I'm just curious if Lee could Kick or not. He couldn't be any worse than Shmidt.
And to the people that ask what if he got hurt. How is that any different than our current situation. Who would punt if Lee got hurt on Sunday anyway?
I would think that a guy like Janikowski could be a pretty good punter. Than you could have a guy like Shmidt on your team to be the backup K/P if he got hurt. Like you do with every other position.

Ricky Schmitt does both.
He also gets extra points blocked, awesome!
Not in games.
I was at the Lion's game. One of his extra points was so low it got deflected on the way up. He also missed a 28 yard field goal that was too low and got blocked. He also kicks off like a 14 year old girl.
that was a FG, not an xp. it was just so close it looked like an xp. he kicks the ball too low. usually kickers with weak legs kick low to maximize distance.

Guys, NFL is an extreme sport. Every one plays at the highest level.
Punters have certain unique techniques that require constant practice to perfect. Same for kickers. Very few of them can be perfect in the league. You can lose a game if you casually switch their roles.
Those free agent kickers keep up their practices almost daily waiting to be called on by teams. It is not something you can pull a person from the street (or from the locker room) to do it.
Why can't a taxi driver drive a rig?

Physiologically, it involves mastering different muscles.
Punting is using mostly your quads and abs whereas placekicking uses your quads and your obliques when generating torque and power to kick the ball.
It's like boxing, where a right hook and a right cross are both punches, but uses totally different muscles when executed.

Ya that's what I was thinking, except that people have done it before and even I can kick off the ground and punt about the same distance (not very far ). Too me it's like if you have a strong arm you can throw anything fast, if you have a strong leg you should be able to kick anything Far.
To me it's one of those things where I wont believe he can't do it till I see him shank a field goal. Could he really be any worse than Schmidt (who does both)?

i have been curious why he can't do kickoffs. but he may not have any accuracy off the ground. i can punt the ball 40+ yds with a 4 sec hang time, but can not kick a FG for s**t. but last i played i could kick a soccer ball off the ground about 50-60 yds and the occasional big boot of 70-80.

No, he definitely had an extra point deflected and it barely got through. His legs shouldn't be so weak he can't kick an extra point high and get it there.

Lee can't kick FG's because we can't get the ball close enough to do it.
