How do you think Alex Smith did today?

but back to Alex... this is one thing that drives me crazy...which I don't understand... he made some PERFECT throws...hooked up well with Crabtree for some first down.....but after hitting perfect passes....he can be TOTALLY off...and he does this in the middle of the field..the worst place to do so.

and of course those delay of game penalties are killing us....he should have been paying attention or if the playcall came in late he should have called time out... it went from being 3rd 7 to 3rd 11 on that crucial drive......

but yeah the Playcalling is what frustrates me...the formations we use....like someone else has mentioned, even when we come out in Shogun, Gore was still able to get some good yardage on a play.....we have to spread the defense out...and let Alex look at everything and decide early what he needs to do....when everyone is bunched in together and our Oline has let our QBs down on simple blocking assignments it makes a QB's job that much harder to try and read what a defense is going to do.......for as much as we run it.... I don't remember seeing one playaction rollout...or bootleg... I don't get it.......also not one deep pass attempt...why is this?

some on here need to be prepared for the reality of what is going to happen next week.....although most on here feel Alex played Very Well....next weeks game is going to be at the Stick...and the home fans have had no problem booing him after one series in the past...mainly because of having to pay to see him and our offenses struggle in the past.......so Alex needs to play efficient....Bruce needs to do his job...the oline will need to do their job...but more importantly Raye is going to have to do his job by putting Alex in the situation to make our offense successful.....or else it is going to get ugly at the stick....even if the game is close... we can't turn the ball over in the middle of the field like today.

Exactly now that's common sense bro. He brought Raye in and want to become a power running team? Raye is just doing what Singletary wants blame goes on the coach. We have an identity crisis here and I believe coach knows that.

Now why you gotta throw anything bout Hill in there. One thing i do think about his performance today is that i dont think we would of gotten the same result with Hill behind center. I'm just saying

I think some of you are pretty rediculous. The kid hasn't started in over two years and almost beats the Colts, who by the way have the 5th best passing defense in the league. Also completes about 60% of his passes working behind a backup left and right tackle. Lets be honest, is he a top 5 or 10 QB right now? Absolutley not. Did he play the best game I have seen since Norv Turner was here? Absolutley. Finally starting to see the potential in him that I have never seen. Him and Crabtree got something good going.

Alex has a future in SF. Some of you who just hate him for the past need to get over it and start supporting this kid. He played a solid football game today and I feel its only going to get better from here on out.

With that said Mr. Raye needs to either change his thinking or get the hell out of here. When Alex completed a pass on 1st down Gore was chewing up 5 to 8 yards a carry. When we ran 1st and 2nd down he was averaging about 2. Open up the air game and Gore will break a 50 yarder every week. Oh yeah and can we once, just once send someone deep down the field? Seriously would it kill us to send someone on an go route once? Do we not do that or do we just not have enough pass protection for someone to get 20 yards down the field?

I thought Crabtree played well although he did personally lead to two turnovers. Hard to imagine that he's only been with the offense for a month.

I have NEVER agreed with this....it doesn't matter who the QB is Rattay, Shaun Hill, or Alex.....its one thing to have to catch a pass that is off target but to be expected to catch a bullet that is off target....that you were barely able to get one hand on?

but don't get me wrong...there are passes that some WRs get lazy on, like a couple of Passes Bruce dropped today, that yes, are expected to be caught.

The ball that Smith threw high to Crabtree was a bad pass and that's partially on him but the one where Bruce got one hand on it in the first half was on Bruce because he could've got the other hand on it too. It looked like he had time to adjust to the pass and it was the only place he could've got it but Bruce got lazy and just tried to get it with 1 arm. Pisses me off.

Alex would've had a pretty good game though if it weren't for some of those penalties. The Baas holding call wiped out a 15-20 yard game. Bruce dropped 2 passes atleast that SHOULD have been caught. I mean if you consider the circumstances, vs the #6 pass defense in the league, first start in 2 years, starting left tackle goes out on the first play of the game, he did decent. I wanted to see him do better but we didn't do a good job puting him in situations where he could. I think a lot of people on here thought this would wind up like his start in Indy in 05, that Freeney and Mathis would smash him, that he'd get rattled and throw 3 or 4 picks, or fumble the ball, etc. and for the most part he kept his composure. Was it great no, but it was against a very good defense and there were some more good plays he made that got wiped out by holding, drops, etc. He wasn't perfect but neither was manning and he's the favorite to win MVP this year.

BINGO! The OL is the single biggest problem on this team. we need to figure out the OL and start opening up the offense and running the spread with Smith in the shotgun at least 50% of the time.

he did alright. Nothing special and still looks a tad rusty. We'll see how he does the rest of the season.

He did have some great throws (2nd Q 2 min drive) but some were bad. The INT could have been avoided, and he had some passes that were dropped. Not as efficient in the second half for him and the team.

19/32 198 yards. They are just ok stats.

You need to tell coach singletary to change because that is not going to happen we have an identity crisis here and I hope he figures it out before it's too late in the season. Played well considering the fact the points you made were going to win next week.

maybe so maybe not.... Alex has shown me some confidence out there and I have no problem seeing how much he has improved.......but if he continues to do what he has done in the past then we are just wasting our time and need to throw someone else in there......

again I REALLY don't understand what we are trying to do out there as an offense....in the beginning of the week I got excited because Brandon Jones was going to play....I thought, ok, now everything is going to come together.... we are going to run the ball and run some plays that is going to open up the offense and keep the defense honest....we are going to have Jones run some deep routes with Alex throwing it to him..........even if it is not completed, the fact that we tried would give them something to think about next time they want to stack the box.......but I did not see Jones out there get ONE attempt thrown his way....

If we could've gotten a halfway decent grond game going his stats would've looked much better.

He made some very good throws today and looked again like he's the real deal.
