Hasn't every year since 2007 been called Alex's make or break year? He keeps breaking but people want to give him more chances. I'm pretty sure next year will be the same exercise, also labeled as a make or break year.

Per MM...
Alex Smith as sharp as I've seen him. Completes first 16 attempts to open practice before Diyral Briggs interception.

If Alex didn't throw a pick in TC, then there would be b***hing about our D can't intercept Alex. The fact is we have a very good D. Alex is going up against one of the best Ds in the league even as beleaguered as they are.
Alex needs to translate those great plays in practice to plays in the game on Sunday.

Exactly. Even our back ups are better than other team's defensive back ups. Today the colts preseason team scored 21 in the first half vs Buffalo, vs us they didn't even get that for the whole game and had more INT yards than Painter had passing yards.
Alex just needs to play good in actual games now though.

It's a civil war amongst us. Smith backers are not more loyal than the Smith haters/bashers, realists, whatever you call us. We expect more than what we have been given by this franchise lately. That includes Smith.
Smith has to prove us wrong. For the sake of the team, I hope he can. It's time to be above average. No more up and down games. Everything is there.
Why does all of the blame fall on Smith? If the OL isn't giving him 3 seconds... if the receivers can't catch what is in their hands... why is that always dumped on the QB?
( not being a d!ck about this... just asking )

For whatever reason, that link isn't working for me. No biggie... if it's not worth summarizing, I'll manage...
Despite being 3rd in the NFL in passer rating, Aaron Rodgers had more dropped passes (45) by his receivers than any other QB had. But JaMarcus Russell had the highest percentage of his pass attempts dropped (10.5%) than any other player. Not surprisingly, Darrius Heyward-Bey led the NFL in lowest catch % as he caught only 23.7% of passes thrown to him.

All I hear is how Alex has his passes dropped. Didn't seem to bother Aaron Rodger's having a career year with arguably the worst offensive line in the NFL last year.
I take issue with the "worst offensive line" part. The OLine for the Pack only took a hit once Aaron got in there. Great QB obviously, but he does hold onto the ball too long. As for the drops part, Aaron was 7th a yea ago in pass attempts, it stands to reason that a team that throws more will incur more dropped passes. The fact that our quarterback was 24th in attempts and yet we still had 2 guys who ranked near the league leaders in dropped passes is a lot more disconcerting.
Great post! Very informative and it's time to get a new Receiver's Coach ASAP.

Pretty much knew our Receivers were crap already. It's hard to believe that Sullivan still has a job.
Someone get Rice on the phone and see if he would like to take one of our worst and Sullivan one of our best and let's see who catches more passes in a straight head to head competition. Loser has to quit Coaching altogether.
Man I wish George Stewart was still our Receivers Coach.

Its funny how the same people that say "u think you know more than sing and the beat writers" when defending smith have no problem thinking they know more than a well respected receivers coach when it helps their boy.

This thread will hit 600 pages if Alex Smith turns in another pi$$-poor performance this Sunday on national TV.
And he will.
