I really think we would have had a better chance to pickup yards if we come out in I-formation & wide recievers split out wide. By doing goal line offense they just stack the box & pound our offense.

If we did use a regular pro set as you describe, we would either have man converage on 1 WR or the defense would keep the safeties back to help and leave only 7 defenders in the box. Most of today we dealt with 8 men in the box, minimum.
You make a good point, stacking 9 men in the box was probably, to some degree, a reaction to our formations. If we show 2 TEs and a motion a WR inside, I don't see how you could do anything but stack the LOS with at least 9 guys.
Maybe Sing and Raye think they should still be able to win those 11 on 11 battles

8 out of 13 1st downs were threw the air. Maybe Sing and Raye should re-thing this "run at all cost" playcalling

I just watched us GIVE A GAME AWAY. The run three times up the gut of the Vikes was STUPID... Why the hell go conservative when you can win the game with a 1st down... We were one 1st down from being 3-0 and a top team in the NFC. The O is far to predictable.

And, what made us successful in the 80s? Using the pass to set up the run! If we pass a little more, we'll move the chains. Consistantly running the ball against 8/9 man fronts for little gain (or negative yards) makes absolutely zero fkn sense. Make them respect the pass, and it'll open the run, yes?

You think maybe all the purple cool-aid is gone now? Finally.
Is it too late for a reality-based offensive scheme?
Don't blame poor Raye. He is just following orders.

I hope this loss makes them rethink wtf they're doing. But losing Gore will definitely change things. I do not think we can run 60% of the time with Coffee yet. We will pass more next week and it should work, and when it does work hopefully we don't stubbornly stick to the run in the future if it's being stopped.

O Line. ver yppor. exept these two runs from cofee no run blocking.
Pass protection, not bad, just one sack, yet to much pressure allowed.
Playcalling predicable.
After our defence stopped the vikings on 4th down we failed miserably at putting the game away.
No imaginatioon whatsoever.
Raye has to do a much better job at the end of a game. This is now three games in a row were he fails to call a good secure the win series.
One playaction pass could not have hurt.
Passing game was pretty effective. Hill had a solid game.
What makes me mad is teh fact that we were not able to put the game away.
Just one first down was enough.

Sing and Raye have to realize we do not have the running game to run the ball at will to close out games and we have to be more creative or we will have more of these heartbreaking loses.

Everyone gripes we ran ran ran on the final drive...if we would have thrown the ball and got no yds and stopped the clock or even worse intercepted for a td. You always run the ball to close out games and rely on your def to stop the other team. I think we lost because of the prevent def. We should have played press and left our Safties back just in case. Farve's last pass should have been a 50 or 60 yd throw not 32. But he made an oustanding throw and even better catch.
I was impressed with the niners this game, we showed we can go up against better teams and win. We will see them again!!!
