is going to define our season. Since we are going to be a running team many would assume we will call for a fair amount of runs on third and short. I'm gonna suggest that we will not be all that successful if we try this. Why? Because unlike the cowboys with emmet smith running behind kevin gogan and larry allen with a lead block by johnson we just dont have anyone on the o-line who can absolutely dominate even when the other team knows were gonna run. The difference between a td and a fg on the 1 yd line will be our play call on 3rd down. What im saying is we will get stuffed on plays where the other team puts 11 men on the line often enough that it will affect our season. So play action plays that threaten gore up the middle then end up a bootleg or a pass to the tight end or pass to a wide receiver that went in motion then runs parallel to the goal line(how many tds did jerry rice score on that play?) are the plays we better be practicing and have down pat. Some teams will have undersized d-lines that we will dominate like the seahawks but others wont. we should be prepared to run 60% of our third and short plays as play action pass plays unless we have already proved in the game that our opponet really cant stop us running. If you disagree with me, what % of runs would you call at the goal line? on third and short?

The problem on short yardage has been the o line's fault all the way. On tough one yard situations they constantly get blown backwards by teh defense. They just gotta step it up and so does Gore.

Yep!!

With Gore and Coffee et al. pounding the rock, Play action will be great weapon. Unfortunately, last year play action was taken out of the playbook but Martz. This year is should be a different story.

For the most part that is the reason we drafted coffee for. but there will be situations where it will be Gore.

frank gore won't get goal line carries! the year he made it into the probowl in 2006 and rushed for 1,695 yards. he only scored 8 times. was never really used that year in goal line situations. my predictions are either coffee or norris!

Not all runs have to be straight up the middle. Keep them guessing exactly where we are running, and we can run on third and short even when they expect it. Hostleter seemed to like to run right up the middle, just like the defense expected.
