It was embarrassing.

I liked the guys' fire when he first arrived, but he just sucks, man.

I would dare you to tell him that face to face. The guy doesn't suck. Otherwise, he'd be a backup or off the team. So he's not a NFL icon or the sexiest DT out there, i.e. Haynesworth. He's above average. There isn't much help around him at LE or RE other than Justin Smith. The guy makes plays when he's given the opportunity. He's a DT/NT, he's not expected to have 10 tackles or 2 or 3 sacks a game. He supposed to stuff the run for P Willis and company to make the big plays, which he does.

2007 stats

58 tackles
27 solo
31 assists
1.5 sacks
1 pass defense

Of course I'm not gonna say that to his face, otherwise I'd be doing his job.

LOL @2007 stats.
In the previous Nolan iterations of the 2-gap defense, I'd agree, Sopoaga wasn't effective. However, I'd expect to see him make more plays in a simplified 1-gap like they played after Singletary took over. Look what it did for Franklin's game...he played much better after those changes. One of Singletary's strengths is to recognize player's abilities, and structure the offense or defense accordingly. I don't know that "Soap" will ever be the beast most of us thought he'd be, but I do think he'll be more effective in a 1-gap scheme.

Agreed. Although...
this guy makes the 2 gap attractive...

He'll be gone by the 10th pick.

Decent backup, not starting material at all

No, the guy who posted this friggin sucks. Demetric Evans is getting praised as a great pickup. Well, he had 33 tackles last season. Sopoaga had 41. Soap also was instrumental in attracting double teams and allowing Justin Smith to roam freely. People who post stuff like that should have to square off with Soap face to face -- then when you're through picking yourself up hours later tell us that he sucks.

He's just not that good... The guy is a decent back up but nothing special.. We've been waiting on his 'potential' to materialize for like 5 years now.. Part of his mediocure play maybe due to our mediocure coaching...

Exactly.

That's good, but he has said before he prefers end, so I'm mixed right now. We'll see. Personally, I think he's better at DT.

I don't care what position he plays on the D Line,as long as he's effective ALL YEAR

Him being effective is like Obama's stimulas plan working!!

Yeah, let's go back to George Bush. Maybe start another war. That's good for business.

i agree 100%

if he's the starting NT this defense isn't gonna be good against the run folks and yet the team paid this guy a good amount of money these back up players aren't gonna get it done

Evans started 11 games, Soap 15 games. Evans had 3.5 sacks, Soap had 1. So what???

lol at the people who say "you should have to square off with Soap face to face" and "I bet you won't say that to his face" damn he better lay us out, he's making what $5 million a year? He better lay my broke a$$ out.

The simple fact is Soap is an average DL in a 3-4 defense. He'd be better off as a DT in a 4-3 defense. If he was as good as people on here make him out to be, then the coaching staff wouldn't be having him change positions every freakin year.

If sacks and tackles were decided on which lineman could bench press more weight then yes Soap would be in the Probowl.

I like Soap just as well as the next guy but the fact is he's overpaid in our defense.

*sigh* sounds like someone else I know! Whom I would not be afraid to tell him he sucks face to face!
I woudn't say that Soap sucks. However, he has proven that he isn't a NT. He's 4-3 DT or a 3-4 DE--THATS IT. They ought to quit moving him around so much.
