you can't force a guy to sign a contract. All you can do is make your best offer and hope he accepts it. You can't blame 49ers brass for Warner not signing a deal. He obviously prefers to be in Arizona.

It's often overlooked but a solid Offense can contribute on the other side of the ball even when they are not on the field.

Case in point the '99 Rams. They were not all that an a bag of Cool Ranch Doritos, Defensively. But that Offense was so potent that the Defense fed off it mentally.

How many Linemen have been drafted over the last FIVE years?

I understand more than most that it takes time for Linemen to "get it", but five years?!?

We need to get a solid RT and now. Forget trying to turn JJ into Filet Mignon. He will always be a crap sandwich. We need a lunchpail type that will play when they hve minor injuries instead of languishing on the bench. The only way to fix the Line NOW is to go out and get the best ROTL available in either FA or RFA. A guy like Newberry. It's too bad his knee was so deteriorated. he still went out on the field and kept his guy off our QB.

I'm tired of seeing our QBs' get demolished at the snap of the freakin ball!!!

No matter who it is under Center.

Signing him for depth? This roster is already full of backup defensive linemen stiffs who couldn't start in this league. Besides Justin Smith they're all backups and only start on this team by default. How about getting some players that make plays for a change. But I guess that's asking for too much.

When JJ is healthy, he is a good tackle, no one can deny that. No one is denying the fact that we should sign a lineman, but it isn't as dire as everyone makes it out to be. As long as Barry Sims isn't starting, I'm not that concerned.

Someone who comes to play, will rip heads off on every down and won't let minor sprains keep them off the field.

JJ is a freakin pantywaist. Because a s far as I am concerned, what good does him being a good Tackle do us when he's on the F'N bench all the time.

And YES it is that dire. If it weren't then the Line would have been fixed over 4 years ago. But I guess you don't mind watching our QBs' get killed. Should I name all the QBs' that got killed over the last 7 seasons before you get the seriousness of the problem?

I apologize for misunderstanding your thoughts on Newberry, but what Newberry-esque players are available in free agency at the tackle position? I think we'd be better of drafting a tackle.

The QB's you are stated that got killed are:

Tim Rattay - Terrible
Cody Pickett - God Awful
Ken Dorsey - Couldn't scramble if his life depended on it
Alex Smith - Pocket presence of a pre-pubescent girl
Trent Dilfer - I won't even go there
Shaun Hill - Didn't get killed because he has at least a LITTLE awareness of what's going on around him

Montana and Young got "killed" behind their lines too. Both of them had injuries that kept them out of seasons. Does that mean their lines were terrible too? No.

Now I think it is safe to say that it isn't completely our line's fault. Look at the QB's that were back there "getting killed." I'd say 90% of them did it to themselves.

Secondly, JJ is a good tackle WHEN HEALTHY. He is more than serviceable. Even you have to admit that. The situation is not that dire as I have stated before. Adam Snyder kept Hill alive long enough for him to make plays and win games. Almost all of JTO's sacks were his fault for holding onto the ball longer than needed. Barry Sims on the other hand is terrible.

While everyone would like an upgrade at the RT spot, Adam Snyder can deal if all else fails. I don't think throwing lots of money at the leftovers at RT right now is the best decision.
