Polian says that NFL should consider a wider field

Makes no sense for the original thread to be locked. If the thread ran it's course and people were just attacking each other, then it should be locked. Since that wasn't the case, WhyTF was that thread locked?

I seriously don't understand the reasoning behind a LOT of threads anymore

Threads that shouldn't be locked are...threads that SHOULD be locked aren't

Who the hell knows.
It seems like anyone locking a thread should show the courtesy of a final post explaining why it was locked.

Yup and niner threads moved to the parking lot
Threads merged and one unlocked but still no explanation as to why the first one was locked.
The moderating (and occasional facilitating) here is odd at times.
more field for their incompetent refs to watch over...

The NFL is NOT considering this, Bill Polian simply mentioned it.

Polian is on SC pimping the idea again. His idea is for a be a 2-4 yard extension on each sideline.
SC reported that the Competition Committee is discussing and considering it but Polian said it wouldn't get changed anytime soon.
In the article they talk about how a bigger field will increase injury because of longer run times to get more momentum in the hit. What they forget is given the longer time the defender is running the greater the time the offensive player has to counter. Just because a defender will have an extra three to four steps to the hit doesn't mean the guy with the ball has to stand still. He still has time to get the ball and do a spin move or get down negating any extra energy the hitter has.
God no
Since the NFL is going XFL...maybe they can have midgets..the field would be really huge
I dont know if this will fly anytime soon ??

but it's only a matter of time until some radical changes are made in the name of MORE dollars .....it's puzzling they never seem to ask the players their thoughts on any changes that are being discussed , Billionaires who dont have any sports experience, drumming up ideas to generate more money will eventually f**k up this game we all love , it's only a matter of time
I locked it because the thread title was dead wrong.

I've now modified the thread title to be more accurate.

I'll now sit and wait to get b***hed at for unlocking and/or re-titling the thread.

Damned if you do....

I am not sure why threads would be locked over semantics but an explanation would have avoided the confusion.
FWIW, ESPN reported that the NFL was looking into the possibility of widening the field.

Because it was a misleading thread title. We lock those when they cause confusion or agitation. Check the first page and you will see both.

If you have a link that says that the NFL - as opposed to one owner - is considering wider fields, please post it.

Thanks.

Polian isn't an owner.

NFL reportedly would consider a wider playing field

NFL has considered widening the playing field 35 feet, and reportedly may revisit the idea
http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-shutdown-corner/nfl-considered-widening-playing-field-35-feet-may-190404198--nfl.html
The National Football Post reported that the league has talked about widening the field sideline-to-sideline from 160 feet to 195 feet, which is the CFL standard, and the league might look into the idea again this offseason.
The National Football Post said the competition committee discussed the idea a year ago. In theory, a wider field would be safer for a league that has much bigger and faster players than it did decades ago.
